Human Services - Student Demographics and Statistics

The number of students in the Human Services program has remained steady over the last few years. During the fall 2016 semester, there were over 200 students enrolled for the A.A.S. degrees. Our program has a good retention rate averaging around 60 percent.

The number of graduates in the Human Services program has continued to grow. In 2009, there were 30 graduates and it increased to 58 graduates in 2012.

Our Human Services student population includes a cross-section of varied cultural and economic backgrounds. The racial distribution is approximately as follows: 70 percent of the students were black, 30 percent were white, and <1 percent were of other races/ethnicities. The age range is 18 to 65 years of age. The students are predominately female (approx. 80 percent) and a large number attend part-time (approx. 40 percent).

For the academic year 2013-2014, the program had 14 honor graduates, 6 Phi Theta Kappa inductees, and 23 award winners.

For the academic year 2014 – 2015, the program had 3 Curriculum Award winners, 2 Phi Theta Kappa inductees, and 29 award winners.

For the academic year 2015 – 2016, the program had 4 Curriculum Award winners for leadership and highest GPA for the college, 20 honor graduates and 1 Phi Theta Kappa inductee.

For the academic year 2016-2017, the program had 7 honor graduates,4 Curriculum Award Winners, 4 Phi Theta Kappa inductees, and 40 additional award winners.

The Human Services Program at Florence-Darlington has active articulation agreements with Coker College and Limestone College, the two private four year institutions in the area that offer a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. In addition, there is a common state wide agreement between the two year and the four year state institutions that lists the courses that are transferrable between the two entities.

The Human Services program routinely averages 85 percent of our graduates who are employed in a human service related occupation, 15 percentpursue a four year degree, or are in both categories.

2013-2014

There were 294 students enrolled for the A.A.S degrees. The retention rate was around 60 percent. There were 49 Human Services graduates. The demographics of our student population remained consistent.

2014 – 2015

There were 204students enrolled for the A.A.S degrees and 35 graduates. The retention rate was 60%. There were 35 Human Services Graduates. The demographics of our student population remained consistent.

2015 – 2016

There were 201students enrolled for the A.A.S degrees. The retention rate was 60 percent. There were 47 Human Services graduates. The demographics of our student population remained consistent.

2016-2017

There were 204 students enrolled for the A.A.S degrees. Retention rate stayed at 60 percent. The demographics of our student population remained fairly consistent.
