Dasklip Pass, Porterville: General Site Rules

·  Persons enter- and use the property of Dasklip Properties (Pty) Ltd entirely at their own risk. Entering- or use of the property signals pilots’ acceptance of this condition, and that no claim will be made against the owner, his employees or representatives, for any act, negligence or omission.

·  Please fill in the compulsory-registration book before flying.

·  Legally, PG or HG flying in SA requires SAHPA membership (Contact the SAHPA office).

·  First-time- or less-experienced pilots: please ask for site briefing and take-off call.

·  Site- and weather briefing available each morning at the Flyers’ Lodge. (Please call number below)

·  Site fee to be paid (on-site, or at Flyers’ Lodge); or proof of status or -annual payment shown.

·  No commercial tandem flights permitted

·  Glider rating must be within the scope of the pilot’s licence grade.

·  All SAHPA- Aero Club- and Civil Aviation Regulations are to be adhered-to.

·  No fires or camping anywhere on the property.

·  No smoking anywhere above- or below the road. Smoking is permitted on the road only, well away from all equipment (please remove your cigarette ends, matches etc.).

·  No picking of flora; and no hunting- or collecting of animals or insects.

·  Please park clear of the cut-away (this is for hang-glider rigging). Park on the east side of the road, facing back down the pass road towards Porterville. Beware of other moving traffic near launch

·  ROADS: Considerate, slow driving is expected of all drivers (including visitors and retrieve drivers). Please make this clear to your drivers. The speed limit is 40 km/h.

·  Stopping- and parking at the landing-field must be well off the road - Please don’t stop or park in the roadway. Please don’t ignore the ‘Stop’ sign.

·  Litter: Please remove what you bring into the area. The nearest refuse bins are in Porterville.

·  Glass products - bottles, glasses etc. - are discouraged on take-off. Please take care with these.

·  Pets must remain under control at all times (no animal messing or bladder relief on the netting please!). Owner to remove all droppings (even from surrounds) immediately. No animals are allowed on take-off during competitions. Note: Black eagles are known to prey on small dogs.

·  Visitors and pilots: Please use the toilets below the road – not the bushes around the take-off site. Bring your own toilet paper (supplied rolls tend to disappear!).

·  Radios are compulsory for XC-flights and strongly recommended for retrieve personnel.

·  Keep the Take-Off area clear. Rig in the NE corner of the netting (rear, left) and enter the take-off zone only when clipped-in and ready to launch. Don’t rig- or leave gear in the launch area.

·  Before flying, check for hang-gliders launching from the ramp.

·  Keep the airspace in front of take-off clear (within reason) for other launching pilots.

·  If there is a launch queue, pilots having difficulty launching are allowed three attempts; after which, except by mutual agreement, they must move to the back of the queue.

·  Please show consideration and tolerance – on the road, on the ground and in the air.

·  The standard landing field (Turkey Patch) may change from time to time - please check.

·  Un-sportsmanlike behaviour and foul language is unacceptable. Please consider the image of our sport – especially when children and members of the non-flying public are present.

·  It is suggested that vehicle keys be left (suitably concealed – or with a launch marshal) to allow available drivers to bring vehicles to the landing field, or back to the Flyers’ Lodge.

·  Please ensure that the gates at the landing-field are kept securely closed – especially when leaving for home at the end of the day.

·  Retrieve vehicles render a welcome service. Please show your appreciation with a fair contribution towards their fuel. We suggest R1/km/pilot, and R10 for a lift from ‘turkey’ to Launch.

·  NB: There are bee-hives among the trees throughout the region. Please warn all visitors and trainees. Those with allergies to bee-stings must carry anti-histamines.

·  SNAKES: The region is known to have puff adders; and black (spitting) cobras, though rare, have occasionally been seen near take-off. Please stay well clear of these animals, if you see them.
