A dream come true
Orphanage School Golfutar Kathmandu
Nepal is a country which depends greatly on tourism and selling hydroelectric power to India. It was during a trip to Nepal that David Rusk worked with Mother Rajan who had associations with a Rotary Club in Nepal. She had set up an orphanage and her dream was to establish a school for the orphanage. David said that he would build a school. Within eighteen months he had over $200,000 towards the project. He was able to get the Rotary Club of Brownhill Creek to work with the Rotary Club of Dilibazar and thus the school project was underway. Unfortunately cancer struck David down but not before he had received assurances from some of his Rotarian mates that David’s dream would be fulfilled. PDG Malcolm undertook to continue David’s work. He was able to get the school built and started. Mother Rajan proved to be a most valuable worker to negotiate the pitfalls of Nepal. The school commenced with seventy students. Shortly after opening the disastrous earthquake which hit Nepal badly damaged the school. Twenty students disappeared as they fled from the boarding house. Now there are fifty living there in tents as they are not permitted back into the boarding school at this time. Nepal does not have insurance companies so all repairs are at the expense of the school. The late David Rusk Memorial Building is central to the school which is set in a semi- rural area. Malcolm’s talk was supported by many pictures of the school, surrounding region and damage caused by the earthquake.
Thank you Malcolm for a most informative talk
