PURPOSE OF THE JOB : / To provide and maintain a safe and reliable permanent way.
STAFFING RESPONSIBILITIES : / 7 Staff (Capital), 20 Staff (Revenue and Capital)
SALARY RANGE / Metro Grade 3B
The following list is typical of the duties, which the post holder will be required to perform. It is not necessarily exhaustive and other duties of a similar type or level may be required from time to time.
The post holder will be required to use his or her own initiative and work unsupervised for considerable periods of time.
There will be a requirement to work unsociable hours. The working week shall consist of 5 shifts (day or night) out of 7, which may be spread over any 5 days of the week, including Saturday and Sunday.
There will be a requirement to undertake rostered standby/callout duties.
·  Maximum of 2 weeks night shift within a 4 week period
·  6 weekends per year for engineering works
Safety Critical Post
PRINCIPAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
1. / Maintenance and minor Renewal/replacement of Permanent Way Assets.
2. / Manage and supervise all staff to enable all works to be carried out.
3. / Management of contractors; Lookout man and WSC etc.
4. / Assist in the implementation of all Capital Maintenance Programmes.

MAIN ACCOUNTALBILITIES

1. / To determine resource requirements, (plant, equipment, labour and materials).
2. / To ensure all works are in compliance with current / future health and safety legislation, relevant standards and procedures.
3. / To ensure all works are carried out adhered to relevant standards and procedures.
4. / To complete all relevant records on Maximo maintenance management system.
5. / To ensure all allocated administration is completed correctly, recorded and submitted within the relevant time scales.
6. / Provide technical backup within roles and responsibility.
7. / To assist with in-house training / tool box talks.
8. / There may be a requirement to temporarily deputise to the next level of management structure where applicable.
9. / When required to undertake all permanent way duties.
10. / There will be a requirement to undertake rostered standby / on call duty.
11. / Procurement / maintenance of stock levels to include adequate lead times.

13. / Ensure all tools are maintained and checked in accordance with company standards
Be able to assess, manage and organise work load to ensure effective and efficient use of manpower.
