EZ1 Cultural Resources Form checklist of potential information to include. - L Brewer 11-21-15

Note: The more project detail you provide, the easier it is for DAHP and the tribes to make their decision to concur with the project. Below are some examples of additional details that may be provided with the EZ1.

  • Make sure that the project is fully planned before starting the cultural resource review, because any change in the project means that you may need to redo the cultural resource review.
  • Clarify that there will or will not be any fencing (if there won’t be fencing, simply state that fencing is not part of the proposal).
  • If there is fencing, state the length/width of fencing, setback from the stream, likely number of post holes, and estimate of [average] posthole depth (excavation depth) and width, also specify if one or both sides of stream/river. If corner posts for fence are substantially larger (deeper/wider) specify dimensions for excavation.
  • Estimate size and dimensions of any LWD (large woody debris) placed in the stream corridor, and number or pieces and points (e.g.6 pieces at 4 different points).
  • Estimate excavation / depth of LWD burial (for anchoring), or specify if being buried/anchored above current surface, or anchoring method if cable is being used as alternative to burial (either above or below surface).
  • State if an off-stream water facility is part of this project (i.e. in this case say it isn’t part of the project)- if it is describe any land disturbing activities(burying pipe, excavation for hardened water tank pad, etc)
  • Specify length/width of planting area, depth and width of required hole for planting- state if simply pushing cuttings in (for example with willow “stakes”)
  • Estimate of how many plants to be installed (number and approx area covered)
  • How wide will the set-back be from the stream bank for the fencing/vegetation (fencing setback mentioned earlier in the list, but setback sometimes necessary for plantings also.)
  • Any general grading/sloping taking place? If so state area affected, state whether adding material or excavating?
  • If installing a bridge be sure to specify details of proposed construction, and required excavations, sloping for approach etc.
  • If adding fill, be sure to include the borrow area in the APE (Area of Potential Effect), as well as the ingress and egress routes.
  • Provide an additionalmap with a larger scale and with topo lines, so someone reviewing the form can figure out where the property is on the landscape.
  • An aerial map showing the project plan is great, but hard to tell where it is, even with the township and section info.Might provide quarter-section info on it.
