Student Numbers - We have received nominations for 99 students from 20 schools to participate in this camp. We have been negotiating with some schools to reduce numbers and aim to run with approximately 65-70 students. It is possible that numbers may fall prior to camp due to natural attrition. Please DO NOT replace students who withdraw – contact Daradgee regarding any changes. We cannot afford to drop below 65-70 so any additional places will be offered to schools on our existing waiting list.
Camp Program Organisation
Program - The 2016 Program is focusing on students writing, illustrating and publishing a
16 page Children’s Picture Book. The Theme is ‘’My Farm Story”with links to the Australian Curriculum - English and Art.
Program Presenters - Elizabeth Honey is returning to Daradgee for her 9thWriters’ & Illustrators’ Camp. Liz will be accompanied by Craig Smith, a newcomer to Daradgee and the Camp. Both Elizabeth and Craig are highly successful and well known author/illustratorswith lots of experience working with children.
Elizabeth is an award-winning author-illustrator of poetry, novels and picture books. Novels include: 45 & 47 Stella Street and Don’t Pat the Wombat. Craig has illustrated over 380 picture books, junior novels and educational readers collaborating with many of Australia’s most lively and experienced writers and editors.
Check out their websites for further information:
Pre Camp Preparation Tasks - To ensure that all students are able to get the most out of camp, they are required to undertake sometasks before camp. Teachers and parents are encouraged to support students in this learning and research journey where they are connecting with and exploring our farms and farmers.
Please note, it is hoped that students will enjoy these tasks, they are not intended to be onerous. The more students immerse themselves in the preparation, the more value they will get from the program.
Seeattached student flyer and access from the DEEC website –Daradgee Website
Art Equipment & Art Practise before Camp –This year, for the first time we are attempting to get students practising with water colours ahead of camp. Each participating student will be sent a start-up pack – pencil, pen, water colour palette, paint brush and water colour paper. Students will need to access our instructional Youtube video introducing them to sketching, drawing and using water colour as an art medium.
While the basic equipment for camp will be supplied, students are asked to bring along their usual school stationery i.e. pencils, rubber, ruler, colour in pencils, felt pens etc. Those who do have special art materials and would like to bring them along may do so. Please have all items labelled.
Personnel – Teacher & Parent Participation including Overnight Supervision
Teachers – Our aim is to have one teacher working with approximately 6 students for the duration of the camp. Aside from assisting with camp duties they will work as mentors with their students and support Liz and Craig with general drafting, editing and publishing of student books. At this point most schools are able to provide a teacher to support their students however in some cases mentor teachers are ‘adopting’ students from other schools to ensure everyone is supported. Things are looking good with this organisation – thanks to those schools able to send staff.
Parents – Approximately 6-8, reliable parents who can enthusiastically work with all students, help out in the kitchen, etc. are eagerly sought. It is important to only select those parents able to meet these demands.
Administration
Knowing DEEC - For “Variation to School Routine” information please access the following CARA link:

  • Farm
Please access Daradgee Website for any information your school/parents require and check for periodic updates.
Some of the activities being carried out during this camp are similar to activities carried out in physical education classes. All of the activities will be conducted under the supervision of registered and experienced teachers.
Invoicing Schools - This year we will invoice schools on the confirmed numbers we receive from each school’s Group List as submitted byFriday 3rd June.
The conditions of accepting/confirming placements, cancellations or withdrawals are as follows:
  • Late cancellation or withdrawal of confirmed students from this camp will see the school being invoiced at 100% of the quoted camp cost. Determination of who pays will be the school’s issue.
  • Students who miss part of the camp due to alternate or clashing engagements i.e. attend a school/personal event or because of exclusion due to inappropriate behaviour will incur a full camp charge.
  • Students who miss part of the camp due to illness may receive a partial discount, however this amount will be limited due to the expense of pre purchased equipment, catering etc.
Please contact the Daradgee Principalas soon as possible to discuss these points if they arise.
Student Disco - On Thursday evening there will be a ‘Farmer’ themed fancy dress disco. Please encourage students to organise a costume. We invite students to bring their favourite ‘bush’ music on CD or USB compatible device. Please just pick the best.
Mobile Phones - Students have no need to bring mobile phones to camp. If families require their child to bring a mobile phone, it will be handed in, secured and available for students upon request. If parents wish to contact students please phone 40 633858.
Lap Tops, USB Drives - Each school needs to send a minimum of onelabelled Lap Top (XP would be preferable) and a USB Drive (8GB).
Photo Permission - Camp photos present great opportunities to promote the students work and the program in general. Once permission is gained via the Media State School Consent Form we are permitted to use these in publications and websites.
Camp T-shirts - Once again we will provide a camp T-shirt for the students and adults working on the program. It is important to note that these shirts will be 100% Australian made. The bulk of this product is sustainably grown and manufactured in Queensland. This is a fact that Daradgee EEC is very proud of.
