Past President’s Report

Governing Council Meeting

June 25, 2016

This is my final report as the serving ICA as immediate past president. I wish to acknowledge the great opportunity to serve ICA these past four years as one of the presidents who find themselves in a constant state of discovery, development and transition. I also want to acknowledge the scores of committee members, division and chapter leaders and myriad others who seek to make a difference in our broad profession. My hat is off to all of you have faithfully played your part and to those who are just now taking their place to make a difference.

As past president, it was my pleasure to coordinate the Southern Conference (Collinsville, IL) with the notable assistance of the Lewis & Clark Chapter and ICA’s executive director, RonnaHeinig. This marked the conference’s 6th anniversary of a downstate event that demonstrated continued attention to quality and professional diversity. While the conference is not large, it rivals many statewide conferences held by many of our neighbors. More importantly, however, it is serving as a means by which the ICA plays a central role in the development of an increasingly vibrant and involved regional community downstate.

As previously reported, I was invited by our previous LDA leaders, Pat McGinn, Jessica Dyrek and Chantelle Peterson to join them on the LDA planning committee. Since that announcement, the baton of LDA leadership has been passed and I have been coordinating a half-day LDA workshop with Hector Zavala and Roseann Oppmann. This workshop is to serve as a hands-on problems-solving practicum for participants assisted by proven leaders who will provide 30-45 days of post-workshop “done-with you” assistance for one or two organizations participating in the workshop that can identify a specific project likely to make a real difference. The workshop will be held during the ICA Fall 2016 pre-conference event.

Finally, the past-president is responsible for coordinating the nomination of candidates for ICA president-elect as well as region representatives. We witnessed a great deal of interest in the various positions and several persons stood for election as president-elect with multiple candidates running in two of three open regions this year. I believe this speaks to both an increasing interest in serving and the sense among members that even the some of our most visible roles are attainable. Congratulations to this year’s field!

Regards to all,

Kevin
