Common Core

Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate

to task, purpose, and audience.

Objective:

Create a shaded full body self-portrait from direct observation in ¾ view that shows you are thankful for something. That which you are grateful for must be represented in your drawing. Use dry drawing media and have at least basic shading. The artwork must fit on the blue part of one locker in the art room hallway and must not damage the locker. You must adhere your artwork to the locker with something that will not permanently damage it: hot glue is ideal, tape could work too. It must be adhered to the locker by the end of class Thursday, ready to grade.

Monday-Wednesday

1. Discuss Norman Rockwell’s Freedoms series (Freedom of Speech) and how it shows thankfulness, emotion, and direct observation.

2.View internet examples of “shaded abstract self-portraits” and decide upon your drawing style.

3.Creative problem solving: as a Table Team, figure out how to get paper to fit the blue front of a locker.

Which paper will you use?

4.Write in your sketchbook the objectives above and plan your artwork.

5.Plan your layout with at least two different thumbnail sketches in your sketchbook: thumbnail sketches are due Wednesday at the beginning of class. Choose the better layout and grab a mirror to create your directly observed self-portrait. How will you directly observe your full body? No photographs are permitted.

Thursday

  1. Get out your self-portrait and arrange on your locker. Be sure you have followed directions to be successful. Use hot glue or tape to adhere your artwork to a locker. We peer assess today.
