UNIT 2
INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of Unit 2 students will be able to: -
1. Define Prana and describe its different aspects, including the maya kosas & vayus, with reference to classical and modern texts.
2. Describe the historical background and setting of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. Give a brief description of Nadis, Granthis, Chakras and Kundalini. State the purpose of Kriya and fully describe how they would teach one Kriya.
3. Define Pranayama and its purpose with reference to classical texts. List precautions and prohibitions for a variety of pranayama techniques with reference to the main texts and discuss the use of ratios.
4. Define Mudra and Bandha with reference to classical texts and discuss how they are used.
5. Explain when Pranayama, Mudra and Bandha are introduced to students and state a rationale for order of teaching these techniques.
6. Teach a Kriya, Mudra, or Bandha, and one Pranayama technique with or without retention and lead the ensuing discussion and evaluation.
7. Practice daily, over a 3-month period (minimum), a variety of Pranayama, Mudra and Bandha techniques, set out in a personal practice plan and keep a record of experiences in diary form.
8. Observe a lesson by an experienced teacher of adults in any subject other than Yoga, and write an objective analysis of it in terms of its purpose and positive qualities.
