CLASS OVERVIEW AND INFORMATION

Please take this home and have your parent or guardian read through it and sign it. Please bring back only the signed portion by Friday, August 12th.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this class is to provide extra help with your English 2 class. At the end of the course, you will be taking the End of Course Assessment, which will count as your final exam grade and count for 20% of your final English 2 grade. Based on scores from the practice EOC exam given at the end of your freshman year, you were selected to participate in this class. I will be working closely with your English 2 teacher to assist throughout the trimester.

GRADES

Your grades will be based on points for participation and assignments. For participation, I expect you to come to class and work on what needs to be done. Sometimes, I will have work from your teacher, and most days, you will be expected to bring work into our class from English 2.

At times, I will provide skill assignments that are related to what you are doing in English 2. Those assignments will have a point value.

MATERIALS NEEDED

I will keep a folder for each of you in my classroom. Any work from English 2 and from me can be kept there.

BEGINNING CLASS

As you enter the classroom and the bellrings, you willimmediately put your cell phone in the storage hanger and take your seat. At times, I will allow phones, but I will tell you specifically when that is.

TARDINESS

When the tardy bell rings, I will close my door. If you arrive after the door is closed, you will be counted tardy. You are allowed one tardy per trimester; subsequent tardiness will result in school disciplinary action.

STAYING IN CLASS

Learning takes place in the classroom. As a result, I expect you to be in class the entire time. HALL PASSES WILL NOT BE ISSUED THE FIRST OR LAST 10 MINUTES OF CLASS.

CLASS DISMISSAL

You may not stand at the door at the end of the period. Instead, you should remain seated until the bell rings.

CLASSROOM GUIDELINES

1. Respect the people, equipment, and furnishings of our room. (talking, heads down, sleeping)

2. Be in your assigned seat with materials ready when the bell rings.

3. Have nothing on your desk other than what we are working on.

4. Follow directions the first time they are given.

5. CELL PHONES WILL NOT BE USED DURING CLASS UNLESS I GIVE PERMISSION. To avoid disciplinary actions due to cell phone use, you will put your cell phone in a designated safe area at the beginning of each class. You may get your cell phone at the end of class when I give you permission.

CONSEQUENCES FOR NOT FOLLOWING THE GUIDELINES

  1. Verbal Warning
  2. Phone call to parent/guardian
  3. Written up for school detention

*Students may be sent to the office immediately for severe disruptions such as damaging school property or another person's property, refusing to do what I ask, or behaving in any other way that stops class from functioning.
