I graduated from CSUF in 1969. I married David DeFehr on June 10, 1967. We have two children Patrick 32 and William 26. I worked at the Alameda County Health Department as a PHN Nurse for 5 years. I currently work as a Special Nurse for 28 years (1980 to current)

List any student nurse experiences you may remember and any faculty:

I remember much of my nursing education; the TB Training we did at FresnoCountyHospital, my Public Health nursing I took in Bakersfield with Eva Bailey. She was excellent. This occurred during my last semester/Senior Year at FSU. Psych training was obtained at Kingsview in Reedley

How do you feel about nursing then and now, and in the future?

I have always loved nursing and have been happy I chose this profession. I have really enjoyed school Nursing for the last 28 years of my career. It has been a challenging field in Special Education and the many procedures we are doing in the school: Gastrostomy feedings, Catheterizations, Tracheotomy, etc. I strongly encourage young students to become nurses.

Any bits of wisdom you have learned over the years? (If you have changed profession, how has your nursing education helped?)

The wisdom I have learned is that you have to be an eager learner to keep current in your specialty of nursing and always open to new ideas and changes to meet the many needs of our students/patients.
