A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE HONORABLE MYRTIS ELIZABETH “LIZ” GODARD UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AS AIKEN COUNTY CLERK OF COURT AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize the Honorable Myrtis Elizabeth“Liz” Godard, whoservedcontinuously as Clerk of Court for Aiken County from January 2, 1985to January 2, 2017; and
Whereas, born February 13, 1949 in Aiken County, Liz graduated from Aiken High School and attended the University of South Carolina Aiken and W. Holden Technical College in North Carolina, where she received her secretarial associates degree; and
Whereas, Liz began her career in the courts working for a law firm in Edgefield. In 1979, she began working as an assistant to the Honorable Sue Roe, Clerk of Court for Aiken County; and
Whereas, during Liz Godard’s tenure as Clerk of Court, the Aiken County Clerk of Court and its staff earned a reputation for being honest, dedicated, dependable, and efficient in assisting citizens from all walks of life; and
Whereas, in addition to serving as Clerk of Court, Liz Godard was appointed to the South Carolina Court Administration Clerk’s Advisory Board and the Legislative Steering Committee and the Steering Committee for the S.C. Association of Clerks of Court and R.M.C. She wasa member of the S.C. Association of Clerks of Court and R.M.C., S.C. Association of Counties, National Association of Counties, National Association for Court Management, American Correctional Association, Clerk of Court CFS Committee, and Aiken County Safety Committee; and
Whereas, Liz Godard is a resident of Aiken, South Carolina. She married Luc Godard in 1987.Between them, they have four children and seven grandchildren. Liz attends Cedar Creek Church and enjoys spending time at her placeon Lake Murray, visiting with family and friends, and supporting the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter and the Aiken County Animal Shelter; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the legacy of leadership and service that Liz Godard has bestowed on Aiken County and the State and appreciate her long and enduring service to the residents of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Honorable Liz Godard upon the occasion of her retirement as Aiken County Clerk of Court and wish her continued success and happiness in all her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Liz Godard.
