Here’s What We Will Be Learning This Week:

English/Language Art:

Reading –We will begin our study of Nonfiction.

Homework this week-

  • Students need to read 30 minutes each night – Monday thru Thursday. Please record their reading on the monthly calendar that is in their binder(Book Title, # of minutes read, and signature each day). The calendar allows you the flexibility to read the total 120 minutes over the days that fit your schedule for the week. (Refer to the green Reading Expectations paper for more information)
  • Students will complete 4 small passages with questions due on Fridays. We suggest doing one per night.

Writing – Students will be introduced to opinion writing and will collaborate with the teacher to complete anopinion writing piece before completing one on their own. Please review the goals and standards attached.

Math:

We will be finishing our multiplication unit with 2 by 2 digit multiplication, using word problems. We will also work with multiplicative comparison and input/output charts.

Memorization of multiplication facts is essential to your child's success with our upcoming units of study. Please encourage your child to practice their multiplication facts nightly. Below is a link to a website that will allow them to practice.

Homework–

  • Students will have one sheet given Monday and due Friday.
  • Dreambox is available and students should be completing 8 lessons by Saturday.

Science:

Students will continue to study the 3 types of rocks (sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous). Their origins, their physical characteristics and examples of each.

*Please make sure you are signing your child's agenda nightly. Homework assignments and behavior are added to the agenda every day. This is a way for us to communicate each day.
