A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 54320, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE METHOD OF APPOINTMENT AND TERMS OF THE GOVERNING BOARD OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA PORTS AUTHORITY, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A PERSON MAY NOT BE APPOINTED OR CONTINUE TO SERVE ON THE BOARD, WHO IS OR BECOMES A MEMBER, ASSOCIATE, REPRESENTATIVE, OR EMPLOYEE OF A LABOR UNION IF THE PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES OF THE UNION ARE PORTS-RELATED.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION1.Section 54320 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

“Section 54320.The members of the board shallmust be appointed by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Senate, for terms of seven years each and until their successors shall have beenare appointed and have qualifiedqualify. In the event of aA vacancy, however caused, a successor shallmust be appointedfilled in the manner of the original appointment for the unexpired term. A person may not be appointed or continue to serve who is or becomes a member, associate, representative, or employee of a labor union if the principal activities of the union are ports-related.”

SECTION2.This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
