Standard:Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including those that allude to significant characters found in mythology (e.g., Herculean).

Unpacked Standard:
Students can interpret words and phrases as they are used in text. Students focus on determining meaning using context clues around the text. This standard also lends itself to working with prefixes, suffixes and root words to help determine meaning. Students will be using fix it up strategies to help determine meaning rather than spending time looking words up in a dictionary.
