Special Needs Planning: A Guide for Parents and Grandparents Presentation at March 21stOrange County Asperger’s Support Group

IRVINE, CA – March 1, 2016 – For parents or grandparents of children with special needs, planning ahead is vital for their protection. How assets are left after death can have a tremendous impact on the quality of life of the special needs child. There are a number of legal options that should be considered when planning to ensure that your special needs child will continue to receive the best care and advocacy possible.

Susan Katzen, attorney and expert in special needs planning, will speak at The Orange County Asperger’s Support Group (OCASG) general meeting on March 21, 2016. The presentation will include:

  • Understanding the role of public benefits and the differences between them.
  • What a Special Needs Trust is and how it works.
  • How the new Affordable Health Care Act will affect loved ones with special needs.
  • The benefits of preparing a Letter of Intent.
  • Costly mistakes to avoid when planning for a loved one with special needs.

The March 21meeting will start at 7:00pm at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 600 St. Andrews Road, Newport Beach. The meeting is intended forparents who have a child diagnosed with Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome or PDD-NOS. RSVP is requested at the OCASG Meetup site:

About Susan Katzen

Susan A. Katzen is an attorney who has been in private practice for over 30 years. Ms. Katzen is dedicated to providing comprehensive, highly personalized counsel in special needs and estate planning as well as trust administration and probate. The Orange County Asperger’s Support Group (OCASG)

OCASG was founded in 2003 by parents seeking to provide support for local families and adults dealing with Asperger’s. The organization has grown to over 1000 member families throughout Orange County, and now also includes families affected by High-Functioning Autism (HFA) and Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS). Monthly support group meetings for individuals and family members are held in Newport Beach and Placentia, often with guest speakers. Monthly social activities encourage social integration.
