OVERVIEW OF LITERACY WORK GRADES K -5

The Fleishhacker Foundation will only fund Bay Area-based organizations providing literacy programs to disadvantaged elementary school students. Please refer to current Education Grant Guidelines for more details. This form should describe the organization’s overall work in the field of literacy, and otherwise does not need to be a grant request for a specific project.

Please describe in 3 pages or less your organization’s programming in the literacy field. Include: the number of sites; hours the program runs per day or week; whether the program takes place in the students’ home classrooms or elsewhere; whether activities are held during school-time or after-school; the total number of students served (broken out by grade level); and how long the program has existed. (Under the Supporting Documents section of the online application, you may also attach a list of schools and/or program sites with name, school district, and city.

Also describe who delivers the program including: how many are paid staff and how many are volunteers; how many hours per week on average they spend on this program; and how they are recruited, trained, and evaluated.

Included in the narrative overview should be a summary of the literacy program’s key goals and objectives, and how the organization measures and tracks its success from year to year. If any independent program evaluations have been completed, please attach them (in summary form).
