T.E.D. Lunch: Real Food but Virtual Money
Celebrating the International Day for Older People (1st October each year), T.E.D. held a ‘Virtual Crowd Funding’ event.
The event involved voluntary and statutory sector partners discussing ideas with older people from across the District. Later in the day older people were given virtual money and asked to ‘invest’ in the ideas they thought would have the greatest impact on their lives.
Feedback received from the event was that attendees enjoyed the day and met new people. Amongst the positive comments one 74 year old said;
“we were well fed and watered, I found out about lots of other projects and services available.”
and another commented;
“Coming to the event on Monday made my day really special. I didn’t have to stare at the four walls all day. People smiled at me and it made me feel good”.

So, What is a Men's Shed?

Tracy Parr, T.E.D. Area Co-ordinator went along to the Mablethorpe, Trusthorpe and Sutton on Sea Men’s Shed meeting to find out what it was all about.
For many no-longer employed people, who need something to do, a Men's Shed, is in part a work substitution. It can also compensate for the loss of workmates and the kind of banter that took place on the workshop floor. Men are social beings and joining a Men’s Shed can be a lifesaver, or at least relieve the life-shortening stress of relative isolation.
The Mablethorpe, Trusthorpe and Sutton on Sea Men’s Shed is a community-base group who are working towards setting up a committee and offering a project which is accessible to all men. A major objective is to advance the well-being and health of all members. You do not need to live in Mablethorpe, Trusthorpe or Sutton on Sea to be a member. Also 'Men's Shed' is just a name - ladies can join! The group are keen to provide a place where like people can get together to work on projects and share new skills and at the same time offer somewhere people can socialise and make new friends. Newmarket Medical Practice,Louth
Afternoon Teas
The T.E.D. Team has arranged a programme of monthly afternoon teas to take place at the Newmarket Medical Practice in Louth.
The afternoon teas are for Newmarket Practice patients and are free to over 50s and offer an informal social gathering aimed at helping to combat isolation and loneliness. It’s also an opportunity to find out what’s available in the local area.
Practice staff can also mingle amongst guests, in a more informal way offering the opportunity to chat about things that might be bothering them. One lady who attended the first afternoon tea said:
“I spend most days on my own, I don’t have any family and coming here has given me something to look forward to.”
Service providers can also attend to give information on current and new services. There is no need to book, just call in and enjoy a free cuppa and chat.
