Song of Gathering July 19, 2009
Come Ye Sinners
Words by Joseph Hart, 1759, Music by Matthew S. Smith., 2000
Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched,
Weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus, ready, stands to save you,
Full of pity, joined with power.
He is able, He is able;
He is willing; doubt no more.
Come ye needy, come, and welcome,
God’s free bounty glorify;
True belief and true repentance,
Every grace that brings you nigh.
Without money, without money
Come to Jesus Christ and buy.
Come, ye weary, heavy laden,
Bruised and broken by the fall;
If you tarry ’til you’re better,
You will never come at all.
Not the righteous, not the righteous;
Sinners Jesus came to call.
Lo! The Incarnate God, ascended;
Pleads the merit of His blood.
Venture on Him; venture wholly,
Let no other trust intrude.
None but Jesus, none but Jesus,
Can do helpless sinners good.

Meditation Psalm 20:6-7
Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer Him from His holy heaven with the saving might of His right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
Call to Worship Psalm 46
Leader: God is our refuge and strength, a very presenthelp in
trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives
way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the
sea,though its waters roar and foam, though the
mountains tremble at its swelling.
People: There is a river whose streams make glad the city of
God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the
midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her
when morning dawns. The nations rage, the kingdoms
totter; He utters His voice, the earth melts. The Lord of
Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Leader: Come, behold the works of the Lord, how He has brought
desolations on the earth. He makes wars cease to the end
of the earth; He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
He burns the chariots with fire.
People: “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted
among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” The
Lord of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our
fortress.

Songs of Praise
Almighty
Words and Music by Wayne Watson, 1980
Almighty, most Holy God
Faithful through the ages
Almighty, most Holy Lord
Glorious, Almighty God
The beasts of the field,
The birds of the air,
Are silent to call out Your name;
The earth has no voice,
And I have no choice,
But to magnify God unashamed.
Let the rocks be kept silent for one more day;
Let the whole world sing out,
Let the people say.
(Chorus)
Well, time marches on,
With innocence gone,
And a darkness has covered the earth;
But His Spirit still dwells,
He speaks, "It is well,"
And the hopeless still offered new birth.
He has now conquered death,
It will have no sting;
Let the prisoner go free,
Join the dance and sing
Holy God We Praise Your Name
Words and Music by Ignace Franz, 1774, Early Christian hymn
Holy God, we praise Your name;
Lord of all, we bow before You.
All on earth Your scepter claim,
All in heaven above adore You.
Infinite Your vast domain,
Everlasting is Your reign.
Hark! The loud celestial hymn
Angel choirs above are raising;
Cherubim and seraphim,
In unceasing chorus praising,
Fill the heavens with sweet accord:
"Holy, holy, holy Lord!"
Lo, the apostolic train
Join Your sacred name to hallow;
Prophets swell the glad refrain,
And the white robed martyrs follow;
And from morn to set of sun
Through the Church the song goes on.
Holy Father, holy Son,
Holy Spirit, three we name You,
While in essence only one;
Undivided God we claim You
And, adoring, bend the knee
While we own the mystery.

Confession of Sin Psalm 73
1Truly God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart.
2But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled, my steps had nearly
slipped.
3For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of
the wicked.
4For they have no pangs until death; their bodies are fat and
sleek.
5They are not in trouble as others are; they are not stricken like
the rest of mankind.
6Therefore pride is their necklace; violence covers them as a
garment.
7Their eyes swell out through fatness; their hearts overflow with
follies.
8They scoff and speak with malice; loftily they threaten
oppression.
9They set their mouths against the heavens, and their tongue
struts through the earth.
10Therefore his people turn back to them, and find no fault in
them.
11And they say, “How can God know? Is there knowledge in the
Most High?”
12Behold, these are the wicked; always at ease, they increase in
riches.
13All in vain have I kept my heart clean and washed my hands in
innocence.
14For all the day long I have been stricken and rebuked every
morning.
15If I had said, “I will speak thus,” I would have betrayed the
generation of Your children.
16But when I thought how to understand this, it seemed to me a
wearisome task,
17until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I discerned their
end.
18Truly You set them in slippery places; You make them fall to
ruin.
19How they are destroyed in a moment, swept away utterly by
terrors!
20Like a dream when one awakes, O Lord, when You rouse
Yourself, You despise them as phantoms.
21When my soul was embittered, when I was pricked in heart,
22I was brutish and ignorant; I was like a beast toward You.
23Nevertheless, I am continually with You; You hold my right
hand.
24You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will receive
me to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth
that I desire besides You.
26My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my
heart and my portion forever.
27For behold, those who are far from You shall perish; You put an
end to everyone who is unfaithful to You.
28But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God
my refuge, that I may tell of all Your works
Song of Confession
Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)
Words by John Newton, 1779-1851, Music by Chris Tomlin, 2006
Amazing grace how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind but now I see!
T'was grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believed
My chains are gone, I've been set free,
My God my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns,
Unending love Amazing Grace
The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be, as long as life endures
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbears to shine;
But God, who call'd me here below, will be forever mine
Will be forever mine, You are forever mine

Jesus Messiah
Words and Music by Chris Tomlin, Ed Cash & Jesse Reeves, 2008
He became sin who knew no sin,
That we might become His righteousness
He humbled himself and carried the cross.
Love so amazing, love so amazing
Jesus Messiah, Name above all names,
Blessed Redeemer, Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners, the ransom from Heaven.
Jesus Messiah, Lord of all
His body the bread, His blood the wine.
Broken and poured out all for love
The whole earth trembled and the veil was torn
Love so amazing, love so amazing
