Word of the Week
The word of the week this week has been kindness, showing you care or doing good to make life better for others. The word of the week next week will be cleanliness, keeping fresh and clean, putting my things and my life in order. At Shaw, we expect all students and staff will contribute to the cleanliness of our school by picking up after themselves, especially at the end of the school day.
Box Top Challenge
Our annual Box Top Challenge is here once again! Classes will compete against each other to see who can collect the most Box Tops during the month of February. The class who collects the most Box Tops will WIN a Box Top Party! Collect your Box Tops and send them in a zip-lock bag with your child’s name on the bag. (NOTE: Please help us save time by cutting off as much extra paper around the Box Top as possible). Ask extended family to help you in this challenge.
Student-Led Conferences: February 18th and 19th
It is the time of year when students are preparing to lead an adult through a “student-led conference” on Monday, Feb. 18th from 9am to 7pm or Tuesday, February 19th from 8am - noon. This is an exciting time for our kids as they get to ‘show off’ all their hard work and accomplishments. The student-led conference is child-centered, giving the student the opportunity to reflect on their own learning and to communicate with their parent. The teacher will be present as a facilitator; however, the students will be leading the conference. There is no regular school for students on these days.
Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day provides a great opportunity to encourage children to develop their penmanship skills by writing the names and an appropriate message on a valentine for a classmate, friend or teacher. This might be a great at-home activity the weekend before. If there is a celebration with food, please look to your child’s teacher for guidance on what item(s) to send. We are encouraging healthy treats (veggies, juice, crackers, etc….) and moderation with sweets and fats.
