AUTOMOBILE MECHANIC

1.  Servicing
·  Perform engine power flush

·  Trace fluid leaks

2.  Electrical Systems
·  Clean and inspect parts
·  Inspect interior and exterior lighting of vehicles; repair and maintain
·  Maintaining and repairing heating systems; water hoses, cooling systems, air conditioning, fan belts
·  Clean, test and replace spark plugs
·  Inspect distributor caps, rotors, plug wires
·  Repair or replace alternators and generators
·  Align headlamps
·  Test electrical circuits
·  Recharge and replace batteries, cables and battery boxes
·  Clean and add water to battery
·  Perform final idles and fuel mixture adjustments
·  Adjust ignition timing
·  Check computer fault codes
·  Check sensor valves

3.  Tires, Brakes and Alignments
·  Install tires to rims
·  Balance rotate and install tires to vehicles
·  Lubricate or replace c/v joints and boots
·  Perform oil pressure tests
·  Repair tire air leaks

·  Replace and repair brakes; brake shoes, lines and hoses, wheel cylinders, hand brake linkages
·  Adjust, inspect and pack wheel bearing and seals

·  Repair or replace disc brakes, hydraulic lines, fittings and control valves
·  Replace shock absorber and mountings

4.  Transmission and Steering
·  Clean and visually inspect the transmission
·  Adjust linkage from engine to transmission
·  Diagnose, replace or adjust modulators
·  Install automatic transmissions and cooling systems
·  Replace seals, gaskets and switches
·  Replace power steering pumps and hoses
·  Replace belts, set tensions and steering gear assemblies
·  Check power steering fluid
·  Lubricate steering boxes and linkages
5.  Engine and Power Train Maintenance and Repair
·  Wire brush valves to remove carbon build-up
·  Remove and sandblast spark plugs
·  Remove and replace rocker cover
·  Install rings on pistons and oil pans
·  Assist with removal and replacement of clutch, transmission, differential and engine
·  Remove and replace cranking motors
·  Perform general tune-up procedures
·  Change automatic transmission fluid and filters
·  Replacements; universal joints, gaskets and seals, pinion seal, pilot bearings, speedometers, etc.
·  Inspections, drive shafts, u-joints, centre bearings
·  Engine replacements; valves, timing gears, sprockets, covers, chains, belts, rings, pistons, mufflers, flywheels, camshafts and bearings
·  Disassemble engines to inspect, replace and overhaul

6.  General Shop Duties
·  Assist master mechanic and apprentice
