Dear Coaches:
The HCMS Speech Team is proud to present the annual Flocks of a Feather Speech Invitational on November 4, 2017. This tournament will strictly adhere to KHSSL rules and all KHSSL events are being offered.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING VERY CLOSELY!
Awards
We will be recognizing the top 7 performers in each event. A trithon award will be given to the 7 students who perform the best in three or more events. For those students who dare to quadruple, I will calculate sweepstakes points for only their top three events. In order to be able to participate in this event, you must complete the sheet with the students’ names and the events they will be tripling/quadrupling in. THERE CAN BE NO ADDS TO THIS LIST ON THE DAY OF THE COMPETITION, SO MAKE SURE YOU ARE ACCURATE WHEN YOU SEND IN YOUR REGISTRATION. We will also be recognizing the top 7 schools. All awards are based on KHSSL State/Regional Format, and all eleven KHSSL events are being offered (naturally KHSSL rules will be followed).
Entries
As in the past, I am flighting the tournament. I will allow students to enter up to four events; however, they may only enter two events in each flight. What it comes down to is that no student can triple in a flight. This will cause major back up. If this is discovered at any point before or during the tournament, I will disqualify the student from all events, so coaches please make sure this does not occur. We will have sheets outside each door for students who double to sign so that judges know to wait. Please make sure you talk to your students about this process. Each team may enter as many contestants as they want in each event, but only the top three entries in each category will be counted for sweepstakes. Please make copies of the registration form if you have more than five entries in each category.
DEADLINES
Entries must be entered intabroom..comno later than 5:00 PM on November 1, 2017. Drops after that deadline, will result in drop fees. Absolutely no addsafter Wednesday,November 1. Coaches please do not press this issue. It is so hard to add studentsafter Wednesday. I want to be able to present to you a real organized tournament. That cannot be done when coaches forget to include students. Registration is through
Food
As always, we will provide many snacks at our concessions, but we will also be selling pizza and hot dogs. Needless to say, you will not have time to go to lunch during the tournament. There will also be a fantastic judge’s lounge for all adults.
Fees & Judges
The entry fee will be $7.00 per entry. Duo Improv and Duo Acting will count as two entries in fees and one entry in number of judges needed. There will also be a $7.00 entry fee for those students competing in the trithon. You will need to supply one judge for every 6 entries or portion thereof, or pay a fee of $25.00 (we prefer the judges). Drops will cost $7.00 per person per entryafter 4 pm EST on Wednesday,November 1,and this fee will continue onthrough Friday at 4:00 PM. Any dropsafter 4:00 PM on Fridayand on Saturday will result in a $14.00 drop fee per entry per event (remember faxes and e-mails indicate the time they were sent and I will be going by those recorded times). Dropped judges will cost $50.00. Please make all checks payable to Harrison County Middle School.
Directions
From Lexington, you can take US27 North to Cynthiana. You will enter the city limits when you cross the John Hunt Morgan Bridge. Immediately across the bridge, there is a red light. Turn right at the red light and this puts you on Bridge Street. Go to the second stop sign and turn right. This is Church Street and it leads you up to the top of the hill. At the top of the hill, you will see the high school to the left. There is a road that passes in front of the high school and you want to turn left onto that road. When you pass the high school and its back parking lot, there is a road that forks off to the right. Take that road past the elementary school and the middle school is behind this school. Unload in the front and the buses can park in the rear.
From Cincinnati, take US 27 South to Cynthiana, on the outskirts of Cynthiana, just past a funeral home, there is a road that turns left (it is before the bridge). Turn left and this is Church Street. Follow it all the way to the top of the hill and from there read the directions above that starts with “At the top of the hill…”. If you miss this turn and go across the bridge, go to the second redlight and turn left. Go down to the second intersection and turn right (this is the same road-Church Street).
From Louisville, take I64 East to Georgetown US62 exit. Turn left off the exit and follow this road to the second red light. Take a right at the red light (this is the Georgetown bypass).. At the thirteenth red light turn right (this intersection is the main entrance to Toyota). This will put you on US 62 East. At this point, take US62 (a right turn) east to Cynthiana. Follow that until it stops and you must turn left or right (this is US 27). Turn Left and this puts you on US 27 South. See the above Lexington directions at this point.
