·  Letter resulting from NWDN letter to editor HI- I'M AN INSTRUCTOR IN THE SALT LAKE CITY AREA OF UTAH. I HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF DIVES IN THE PUGET SOUND AREA, AND THOUGHT THEY WERE FANTASTIC! I USUALLY DIVECALIFORNIA'S CHANNEL ISLANDS, WITH OCCASIONAL TRIPS TO THE FLORIDA KEYS, AND THE CARIBBEAN; BUT DIVING THE WATERS OF THE NORTHWEST HAS BECOME MY NEW PASSION! I HOPE TO START LEADING SHOP TRIPS UP TO YOUR AREA SOON. I SUBSCRIBE TO NW DIVE NEWS (MET THE PUBLISHER AND HIS WIFE AT DEMA IN NOVEMBER- NICE FOLKS),AND READ A LETTER IN THE DECEMBER ISSUE FROM JACKIE HILDERING OF YOUR CLUB. I WAS QUITE IMPRESSED WITH THE SENTIMENTS EXPRESSED, AND AM OF LIKE MIND. I DO STRESS THE OLD MANTRA 'TAKE NOTHING BUT PICTURES [AND MEMORIES], LEAVE NOTHING BUT BUBBLES' TO MY STUDENTS IN CLASS. I LOOKED FOR A RESPONSE TO JACKIE'S LETTER ON THE NW DIVE NEWS WEBSITE, WITHOUT SUCCESS. I DID EMAIL THEM WITH A REQUEST FOR SAME. I WOULD SURE LIKE TO HOOK UP WITH YOU FOLKS ON A DIVE SOMETIME, PERHAPS WHILE LEADINGA SHOPTRIP-YOU SOUND LIKE MY KIND OF DIVERS. DO YOU WELCOME OUT OF TOWN DIVERS TO JOIN YOUR CLUB? BEING UNFAMILIAR WITH YOUR AREA, I WOULD WELCOME ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR A TRIP DESTINATION, DIVE OPERATOR, LODGING, ETC., THAT WOULD COMBINE BOAT AND SHORE DIVING. WE COULD FLY INTO EITHER SEA-TAC, OR VANCOUVER.I WOULD BE LEADING 6-12 DIVERS ON A SHOP SPONSOREDTRIP. THANKS! -CLIFF CAMPBELL, INSTRUCTOR/SALES- DIVE ADDICTS DIVE SHOP- DRAPER, UTAH WWW.DIVEADDICTS.COM

·  Re. LCEMS Hello Jackie, my name is Conor McCracken and I work with Paul Malcolm at the Vancouver Aquarium. Paul is off on a leave of absence and I will be coordinating the LEMS survey this year. Paul had mentioned to me that you had been a huge help in getting surveys from the North Island, particularly in Port Hardy. This data has been extremely important to us as other than your submissions we receive very little support from the area. It has always been a good count and we would really appreciate any support that you can give to this years survey. The official dates for this year are Feb 17-25, however we will be accepting data collected anywhere between Feb 3- March 4, 2007. Port Hardy has been a good statistical outlier in terms of abundance and average size of the eggmasses and we really need to cover this area in this long term study. I also came across the Top Island Econoauts website and if you would like I can send up a package with some LEMS surveys and data sheets for divers. The sheets can also viewed and printed from our website (http://www.vanaqua.org/lingcodsurvey/ ).The site will be updated shortly with the new 2007 sheets and
information. Thanks in advance, Conor McCracken
