Some Resume Basics:
§ -Be consistent on your letter spacing and line spacing, and formatting such as typeface and type size, or underlining and bolding.
§ -Use city, or state and country names for each job
§ -Be specific about the exact names of the government organizations, schools, company names, and any other organization. Use the correct spelling and capitalization
§ Remember your job and job duties should be in the past tense, except perhaps for a current job!
§ Go online and look at other resumes similar to yours so you can see what language ideas you may be able to use
§ Make sure your resume has the language or key words of the job/industry you are applying for and of the specific job you are applying for
§ Integrate details and adjectives into each bulleted description of a job duty. Use numbers and quantities.
§ Each important job should have at least three bullet points telling your job responsibilities (accomplishments) that show increasing responsibility and how each job differed from the previous one. Your most recent or important job can have more bullets. Less important jobs could have fewer bullets.
§ Make sure the most important bullet points are on top!
§ If you have had a long career, your career/experience is more important than your education. Education can be last.
§ If your working career is short, then put your educational experience first.
§ Make your resume 1-page if you have had less than 3-5 years of work experience
§ Consider your life accomplishments and skills if you don’t have so much education or work experience (sports, arts, music, hobbies, household management, etc)
§ -Delete anything that doesn’t relate to the job you are applying for
§ -Review, edit, review, edit, have someone else look at it, review and edit
