TO: All students who have been on the Dean’s List for any two or more consecutive terms, and all First Year students with an exceptional academic record.
FROM; James D. Clarkson, Director, Enderun Colleges Honors Program
SUBJECT; The Honors Program Challenge.
Most of you are probably aware that Enderun is establishing an Honors Program.
What you may not yet realize is that many of you are automatically qualified to join this ‘by invitation-only’ effort.
If you are interested in working even harder, putting in even more hours, having even longer discussions with fellow students and faculty, and generally distinguishing yourselves academically in an academic community the Honors Program will meet your interest.
In return for this redoubled effort you will have an opportunity to explore topics of your own interest, in-depth, with constant feed-back from fellow students and faculty and, eventually, gain recognition as an Honors scholar, probably a free lunch or two (maybe even a dinner), and take part in a series of advanced seminars.
Each Honors student will design their own Honors effort and, in discussion with a chosen faculty member or members, determine what constitutes Honors-level performance. My role is to keep it all together and on-track.
So think of a topic that fascinates you, find a faculty member willing to proctor your effort (most of the faculty have indicated an interest in the program), strike a deal, and let me know about it.
I’ll be pleased to answer any questions you may have. My email is . Rumor has it that I will actually have a desk in the ‘fish-bowl’ on the second floor of the Museum Bldg. beginning next week. I am on-campus to teach Monday and Thursday, and available for consultation, chatter, or coffee or some combination thereof on Wednesday and sometimes Tuesday. I look forward to seeing you there.
