JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: DEAN OF STUDENTS

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  Current teacher certificate

2.  Minimum three years teaching experience

3.  Possess or pursuing administrative certificate

REPORTS TO:

Building Principal

SUPERVISES:

Certified and non-certified staff as directed by the principal

JOB GOAL:

To assist the principal in providing school-wide leadership and to learn the role of the principal.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBLITIES:

1.  Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school.

2.  Assists the principal in establishing and maintaining an effective learning climate in the school.

3.  Proposes schedules of classes, extracurricular activities, and class rosters.

4.  Supervises the preparation of student schedules.

5.  Works with faculty in compiling the annual budget requests.

6.  Assists in the management and preparation of the school budget.

7.  Requisitions supplies, textbooks, and equipment; conducts inventories; maintains records; and checks on receipts for such material.

8.  Assists in safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.

9.  Assumes responsibility for coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.

10.  Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and works with the truant officer and school nurse for investigative follow-up actions.

11.  Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the student body, and deals with special cases as necessary.

12.  Works with parent and faculty groups in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.

13.  Performs such record-keeping functions as the principal may direct.

14.  Supervises the instructional process as directed by the principal.

15.  Keeps the principal informed of the school’s activities and problems.

16.  Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration.

17.  Interprets and enforces district policies and administrative regulations.

18.  Maintains active relationships with students and parents.

19.  Assists in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional program.

20.  All other duties as assigned by the principal.
