Reader Response Essay

I thinkassumedSociety has somewhat ruined love. It makes it impossible for love to blossom between social classes. This occurs because society is built upon individuals?; the people who are wealthy, the people who are rich, the people who are poor, and the people who have no money. Money the thing everybody seeks to make their lives happy. C SF As many have said and many more will say the world is built upon it. A rare occasion would occur if social classes were to intertwine. I believe the rich marry the rich to get richer, and the poor subsequently marry the poor only getting poorer. This is beginning to change slightly in America but ultimately still remains the same as it has for thousands of years. It is practically looked down upon in society to find a companion who does not hold your same rank.

-->INTRO. BOOK TITLE FIRST Mr. Collins and Charlotte Lucas share love of understanding. Mr. Collins first asked Elizabeth for her had C but was turned down. While Charlotte was not a C (ETC) careless with offers of matrimony especially from someone like Mr. Collins. SF (ETC) Charlotte understood that someone of high ranking asking to marry you was rare. She wanted to be provided a fine home and a nice, quiet life. Mr. Collins was thrilled Charlotte said yes because a man such as him should be lucky a girl like her said yes. Their love is the type that is shared so they won’t be alone in life wishing for at least someone to be there. BRING MORE SPECIFICS FROM THE TEXT FOR SUPPORT

Mr. Wickham and Lydia Bennet share a love of youthful enjoyment and superficial arrogance. Mr. Wickham is first interested in Elizabeth but soon realizes she is of no use to him. He tries marrying Miss King essentially for money, but eventually does not work out. With time and Lydia’s effort the two get together. Lydia ultimately disgraces the family by not being married to Mr. Wickham. The man who owes money to all and must have the debt paid in order to marry Lydia. Their love is based upon flirtation, good looks, and sensual pleasures which will solemnly fade away and lead to unhappiness.

Mr. Bennet and Mrs. Bennet share a love that sparks has fizzled out on. Not much is said on how the two met, but I believe it was similar to the marriage of Mr. Wickham and Lydia. SUPPORT (WE DO GET MR. B’S ACCOUNT OF THE ORIGIN OF THEIR MARRIAGE Both marriages I believe were based on sexual attraction and not of true love. This is even revealed on the second page when Mr. Bennet says, “’…for, as you are as handsome as any of them, Mr. Bingley might like you the best of the party,’ ‘My dear, you flatter me. I certainly have had my share of beauty, but I do not pretend to be anything extraordinary now…’”(CIT PAGE #) I think this is about beauty fading and living a good long life. This explains why the two don’t agree on much and why Mr. Bennet isolates himself in the library. Their love is idealistic because at their age it would be foolish to divorce; not only because society frowns upon it but they must think of their children.

Mr. Bingley and Jane Bennet share a pure love. When they first meet it cannot be denied that the two instantly liked each other. They began spending time together, especially while Jane stayed sick at Netherfields. Mr. Bingley left and went back to London, leaving poor Jane heartbroken. Eventually he returns and proposes to Jane. She of course said yes. The marriage of the two was also over stepping the rules of social classes intertwining. But this an example in the book of what a good marriage should be based on.

Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet share a love that is rare. Their marriage is the best example of what one should look for when choosing a lifelong partner; it shows how one should get to know each other before entering marriage. The two have similarities but at the same time have many differences. Both are stubborn and from time to time hard headed. Each speak their minds but only when they have something significant to say. At the beginning the two are very distant only because of the prejudice philosophies culture sets. Mr. Darcy has many internal battles on his feelings for Eliza because of her social standard. He realizes love can conquer all social thoughts when it’s the soul that is meant to be your mate. Mr. Darcy is not the only who’s first impression is prejudice; Elizabeth judges Mr. Darcy harshly on their first impression. By the end she realizes her ignorance and admits she was wrong. The two were made for each they might be opposites but as we all know opposites attract.

Love is a powerful thing when the right person is by your side, but can still be enjoyable when the person beside you is someone you care for and want to see happy.? I think poeple in this world are looking for some sort of love that only they can explain. Romance is something every young girl and most likely guy thinks about. Most people in this world aren’t looking to be lonely their whole life. In my opinion everyone gets dealt a certain hand in life and finding someone might not be in the card. I highly doubt people truly wish to be alone in life. In a world where society sets rules and boundaries it might be hard to break the social glass society creates, but it can be done as many have proven in past lifetimes, in present lifetimes, and in lifetimes to come.

Melissa: Add “and in Pride and Prejudice to your last sentence and you have an interesting, compelling claim about the book. See what happens when you take this idea back to the top of your essay and read through each paragraph to see if that’s what your body paragraphs are showing. You’ll want to make sure to bring specific, personal evidence from your life to show why YOU think this is the case as well. This will help clarify your ideas. Then, read your draft aloud to catch sentences and phrases that sound awkward or unclear. If they sound awkward, see if you can restate them—don’t be afraid to sound “too simple” since simple and clear is better than complicated but unclear.
