Children’s book: Integrated Science
You will be picking one topic and writing a children’s book following the guiding questions I have listed below. I use the term “children” lightly, since no child is really going to be reading a book about this stuff…but I digress. Pick a topic, and write and illustrate a story, be it fictional or non-fictional narrative, or what have you. Keep in mind that I would like the book to be around 25-30 pages.
Topics:
- Forms of energy
- The water cycle
- Acids and bases
- Atoms and atomic structure
- Phases of matter and phase changes
Below, you will find the length guidelines (suggested) for each subtopic
- Forms of energy
- What is energy? (1-2 pages)
- What are the forms of energy? (1-2 pages/form = 9-18 pages)
- What is the law of conservation of energy? (1-2 pages)
- How can energy be transferred? Show a couple examples (2-4 pages)
- Why should we care? (1 – 2 pages)
- The water cycle
- What is water? (1-2 pages)
- What is the water cycle? (1-2 pages)
- What are the parts of the water cycle (1-2 pages each = 5-10 pages)
- What are the 5 types of precipitation? How are they different? (2-4 pages)
- How are humans affecting the water cycle? (1-2 pages)
- Why should we care? (1 – 2 pages)
- Acids and bases
- What is an acid? Include at least 2 different definitions. (1-2 pages)
- What are 3 properties of acids? (1-2 pages)
- What are 3 commonly used examples of acids? (1-2 pages)
- What is a base? Include at least 2 different definitions. (1-2 pages)
- What are 3 properties of bases? (1-2 pages)
- What are 3 commonly used examples of bases? (1-2 pages)

- What is the pH of each of the examples you gave above? (2-4 pages)
- What is a strong acid? What is a weak acid? (1-2 pages)
- What is a strong base? What is a weak base? (1-2 pages)
- Why should we care? (1-2 pages)
