Children’s book: Integrated Science

You will be picking one topic and writing a children’s book following the guiding questions I have listed below. I use the term “children” lightly, since no child is really going to be reading a book about this stuff…but I digress. Pick a topic, and write and illustrate a story, be it fictional or non-fictional narrative, or what have you. Keep in mind that I would like the book to be around 25-30 pages.

Topics:

  1. Forms of energy
  2. The water cycle
  3. Acids and bases
  4. Atoms and atomic structure
  5. Phases of matter and phase changes

Below, you will find the length guidelines (suggested) for each subtopic

  1. Forms of energy
  2. What is energy? (1-2 pages)
  3. What are the forms of energy? (1-2 pages/form = 9-18 pages)
  4. What is the law of conservation of energy? (1-2 pages)
  5. How can energy be transferred? Show a couple examples (2-4 pages)
  6. Why should we care? (1 – 2 pages)
  7. The water cycle
  8. What is water? (1-2 pages)
  9. What is the water cycle? (1-2 pages)
  10. What are the parts of the water cycle (1-2 pages each = 5-10 pages)
  11. What are the 5 types of precipitation? How are they different? (2-4 pages)
  12. How are humans affecting the water cycle? (1-2 pages)
  13. Why should we care? (1 – 2 pages)
  14. Acids and bases
  15. What is an acid? Include at least 2 different definitions. (1-2 pages)
  16. What are 3 properties of acids? (1-2 pages)
