1 GENERAL

1.1   SECTION INCLUDES

1.1.1   Plastic decking and fastening system.

1.3.1   ASTM E 84 - Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials.

1.4   SUBMITTALS

1.4.1   Submit under provisions of Section 01300.

1.4.2   Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:

1.4.2.1   Preparation instructions and recommendations.

1.4.2.2   Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.

1.4.2.3   Installation methods.

1.4.3   Selection Samples: For each finish product specified, two complete sets of color samples representing manufacturer's full range of available colors and patterns.

1.4.4   Verification Samples: For each finish product specified, two samples, minimum size 12 inches (305 mm) long representing actual product, color, and patterns.

1.5   QUALITY ASSURANCE

1.5.1   Manufacturer Qualifications: Minimum 5 year experience manufacturing similar products.

1.5.2   Installer Qualifications: Minimum 2 year experience installing similar products.

1.5.3   Installation shall comply with the local building code applicable or if no Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in the building locale the following building code provisions for deck construction:

1.5.3.1   2012 International Building Code (IBC).

1.5.3.2   2012 International Residential Code (IRC).

1.5.3.3   2009 International Building Code (IBC).

1.5.3.4   2009 International Residential Code (IRC).

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.

1.5.4   Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques and application workmanship.

1.5.4.1   Finish areas designated by Architect.

1.5.4.2   Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship is approved by Architect.

1.5.4.3   Refinish mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.

1.6   PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS

1.6.1   Convene minimum two weeks prior to starting work of this section.

1.7   DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

1.7.1   Deliver and store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging bearing the brand name and manufacturer's identification until ready for installation.

1.7.2   Handling: Handle materials to avoid damage.

1.8   PROJECT CONDITIONS

1.8.1   Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.

1.9   SEQUENCING

1.9.1   Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

1.10   WARRANTY

1.10.1   A limited lifetime warranty with a prorated fade and stain coverage for 25 years.

2 PRODUCTS

2.1   MANUFACTURERS

2.1.2   Substitutions: Not permitted.

2.1.3   Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01600.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Clubhouse decking is 100-percent PVC and contains no wood or wood fillers. It is also up to 25-percent lighter than most wood composites. And thanks to our proprietary Korelite™ technology, Clubhouse has a strong, dense cell structure that gives it superior strength. Clubhouse decking is code approved (CCRR 0175) and neighborhood friendly.

2.2   PLASTIC DECKING

2.2.1   Product: Clubhouse Decking as manufactured by Deceuninck Americas.

2.2.1.1   Dimension: 1 inch (25 mm) thick by 5-1/2 inches (140 mm).

2.2.2   Material: Co-extruded with a cellular PVC core and an acrylic cap stock.

2.2.2.1   Profile: Grooved.

2.2.2.2   Profile: Solid.

2.2.2.3   Profile: Manufactured profile as indicated on drawings.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Clubhouse decking offers a choice of board styles - Solid and hidden fastener board options for picture perfect installation.

2.2.2.4   Low gloss-woodgrain finish shall provide skid resistance.

2.2.2.5   Finish: Ironwood.

2.2.2.6   Finish: Mahogany.

2.2.2.7   Finish: Walnut.

2.2.2.8   Finish: Ipe.

2.2.2.9   Finish: Sandstone.

2.2.2.10   Finish: Clay.

2.2.2.11   Finish: Cobblestone.

2.2.2.12   Finish: Brookstone.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The Dual-color, dual embossed planks provide multiple design options with one board: Delete dual color finish not required.

2.2.2.13   The Dual-color, dual embossed planks shall be Ipe/Walnut.

2.2.2.14   The Dual-color, dual embossed planks shall be Mahogany/Ironwood.

2.2.2.15   The Dual-color, dual embossed planks shall be Sandstone/Clay.

2.2.2.16   The Dual-color, dual embossed planks shall be Cobblestone/Brookstone.

2.2.3   System Performance: As reported by ATI Evaluation Service (A Division of Architectural Testing - Certification Services) Code Compliance Research Report CCRR-0175 dated 11/12/2013 - subject to annual renewal.

2.2.3.1   Flame Spread Index: 40 when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84. The referenced criteria, AC174, requires a flame spread index not exceeding 200.

2.2.3.2   Structural performance shall be demonstrated for a temperature range from -20 degree F to 125 degree F (-29 degree C to 52 degree C).

2.2.3.3   Uniform live Load: 100 lb/sf (4.8 kPa or N/m2) when installed on support framing spaced at 16 inches (406 mm) on center.

2.2.3.4   Deck boards used as stair treads shall be rated for the code-prescribed concentrated load equal to 300 lb (136 kg) when installed with a maximum span of 11 inches (279 mm). Deck boards used as stair treads shall be installed in a minimum two-span condition. Grooved deck boards shall not be used as stair treads.

2.2.3.5   Wind Uplift: The wind uplift resistance rating required by the building code and reported in the Code Compliance Research Report CCRR-0175 is based on attachment to treated Southern Pine framing (specific gravity, G=0.55). Installation on wood framing with a lesser specific gravity may result in a lower wind uplift rating.

2.2.4   Accessory:

2.2.4.1   Fastening System: The hidden Clubhouse Fastening System with Clubhouse ConnectClip. System shall leave deck surfaces completely unmarred.

2.2.4.2   Fastening System: Clubhouse Cortex surface plug for perimeter areas and stairs.

2.2.4.3   Fastening System: Clubhouse Hidden Fastener Biscuit.

2.2.4.3.1   System shall simultaneously space the deck boards and hold them down. The biscuit use a longer screw for enhanced withdrawal resistance.

3 EXECUTION

3.1   EXAMINATION

3.1.1   Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

3.1.2   If framing preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2   PREPARATION

3.2.1   Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

3.2.2   Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

3.3   INSTALLATION

3.3.1   Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and in proper relationship with adjacent construction.

3.3.1.1   Fastening System: Clubhouse ConnectClip.

3.3.1.2   Fastening System: Cortex Hidden Fasteners.

3.3.1.3   Fastening System: ' EB-TY' Biscuit Fastener.

3.3.2   Use manufacturer's recommended fasteners based on wind uplift resistance required at the site.

3.3.2.1   Solid Deck Boards:

3.3.2.1.1   Two #10 x 2-1/2 inches (64 mm) SplitStop Titan III composite screws: 600 psf (29 kPa).

3.3.2.1.2   Two #10 x 2-3/4 inches (70 mm) OMG FastenMaster Cortex composite deck screws: 546 psf (26 kPa).

3.3.2.1.3   HidFast HF 2.5 hidden fastener with #10 x 2-1/2 inches (64 mm) deck screw: 94 psf (4.5 kPa).

3.3.2.2   Grooved Deck Boards:

3.3.2.2.1   EB-TY Hidden Deck Fastener (EBEOA) with 1.95 inches (50 mm) long trim head screw (10 TPI, 0.173 inch (4.4 mm) major dia., 0.105 inch (2.7 mm) minor dia., 0.121 inch (3 mm) shank dia., 0.236 inch (6 mm) head diameter: 102 psf (4.9 kPa).

3.3.2.2.2   TigerClaw TC-G hidden deck fastener system with 1.52 (39 mm) long pneumatic screw (16 TPI, 0.128 inch (3.3 mm) major diameter, 0.108 inch (2.7 mm) minor diameter, 0.115 inch (2.9 mm) shank diameter, 0.280 inch (7 mm) head diameter: 108 psf (5.2 kPa).

3.3.2.2.3   TigerClaw TC-G hidden fastener system with 1.62 inch (41 mm) long trim head screw (10 TPI, 0.173 inch (4.4 mm) major diameter, 0.105 inch (2.7 mm) minor diameter, 0.121 3 mm) shank diameter, 0.236 inch (6 mm) head diameter; 152 psf (7.3 kPa).

3.3.3   Face-fasten solid deck boards with two fasteners at each joist or the HIDfast Hidden Deck Fastener at each joist with fastening system as specified or scheduled.

3.3.4   Fasten grooved deck boards using hidden deck fasteners at each joist or face-fastened and require two fasteners at every joist with fastening system as specified or scheduled.

3.3.5   Space deck boards placed at an angle other than 90 degrees to the supporting joist such that the span of the deck boards does not exceed 16 inches (406 mm).

3.3.6   Deck boards used as stair treads shall be a continuous deck board installed over a minimum two span support with a maximum span of 11 inches (279 mm) on center. Grooved deck boards shall not be used for stair treads.

3.4   PROTECTION

3.4.1   Protect installed products until completion of project.

3.4.2   Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
