Continuing Education 1302.91(a)

Policy

All full-time staff will be given the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills by attending classes at the nearest college, university or training center and/or completing coursework online.

Procedures

  1. When funds are available KI BOIS Head Start will pay tuition, books, and fees for full-time staff working toward CDA, AA or BA degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or a job related field. (A maximum of 6 college hours per semester, summer courses only with special consideration)
  1. Staff will consult with the Education Coordinator regarding enrollment procedures, choice of schools, and class load.
  1. Every staff member will contact the school of choice to complete the grant applications, confirm classes offered, and meet with academic advisor.
  1. The Request for College Classes/Agreementform KHS-702 must be filled out completely and submitted to the Education Coordinator for approval.
  1. The Education Coordinator and/or Head Start Director will review and prioritize the request based on available funding. An Approval for College Classes form KHS-702A will be sent back to the prospective student so that they can complete the enrollment process.It is the responsibility of the prospective student to ensure the business office of the college receives this Approval form.
  1. At the end of each semester students will send a copy of their transcript with grades to the Central Office to be put in their personnel file.
  1. Books purchased by KI BOIS will be passed on to another KI BOIS employee who can use it the next semester or be sold back to the bookstore and the money received will be turned in to the Education Coordinator.
  1. Reimbursement for approved travel expenses to and from classes will be allowed as funds are available. Carpool when possible.
  1. Failure to follow any of these procedures may result in KI BOIS Head Start’s refusal to pay for your classes.
  1. All staff members, regardless of who is paying for the classes, must have prior approval before taking time off to attend a class or any event related to a class.
  1. Each semester the Center Director will complete the Continuing Education Information KHS-702B and turn in to Education Coordinator no later than December 20 for spring semester; May 15 for summer semester and August 1 for fall semester.
