Week Beginning Monday 25th September 2017

Dear Parents,

It has been the most wonderful start to the school year. Thank you for all of your thoughtful comments and feedback.

We feel so lucky to work with your children and every day brings unexpected joy. I learn new things everyday too and only last week Art Aggugini in the Ladybird Class informed me that a baby lion is called a ‘fluff’!

This week we have been working to improve the garden area and have created a small Rolfe’s Garage space. We have added steering wheels, tyres, car wheels, planks, bricks, road signs and of course cars, all of the things that you would expect to find in a garage! We will soon be adding some wooden tools and hopefully some traffic lights too.

On a Tuesday morning and a Wednesday afternoon we join together as a whole school for assembly. If there is a special talent or skill that you would like to share with the children please do speak to a teacher in your child’s class. This term we will welcome Mrs Cegarra, one of our parents, who is a dentist (Chloe - Ladybird Class). She will read a story to the children in assembly about the importance of looking after our teeth.

Jeans for Genes Day

A big thank you to all families who supported our Jeans for Genes day charity this year. The Jeans for Genes Day charity supports patient groups to deliver inspiring projects and support services for children affected by genetic disorders in the UK. All of the money raised on Jeans for Genes Day provides grants for day-to-day support, equipment, nursing and patient support services, and events which bring together affected children and their families.

Thank you to Miss Alison for coordinating this event.

Fingernails

A small but important reminder to please cut your child’s fingernails short for school, this is to protect other children from accidental scratches.

The School Notice Board

We have a noticeboard in the school foyer which we use to display information about events in our community. We also use the board to highlight charity events that our parents may be involved in or information about future schools.

Occasionally nannies known to us are looking for work or parents looking for nannies or housekeepers advertise. You are welcome to display information on the notice board but please check with Mrs O’Brien first as she monitors the board closely to make sure that all of the information from parents are individually known to us personally.

Preparatory School Information Evenings and Afternoons

I would like to draw your attention to a number of preparatory school information events that are coming up this term;

Sunningdale School – Saturday 14th October 2017, 10.30am to 12.30pm

This event will be taking place at Sunningdale School in Ascot, this is a boarding school for boys.

Sunningdale School will also be hosting a London drinks evening on Thursday 16th November at Petyt Hall, 64 Cheyne Walk, SW3 5LT. Mrs O’Brien has some special invitations for this event. Please speak to her if you would like to go along.

Website Photographer

A reminder that, Jonathan Stewart a professional photographer, will be visiting Rolfe’s Nursery School on Wednesday 27th September to take photographs of our children and of the school environment for our new website. Please send your child to school wearing their school uniform and with their Rolfe’s Nursery School coat and backpack. I hope that our website will go live in the next two weeks and I will e-mail you a link to the website, once all is complete.

Toilet Training

If your child is not yet toilet trained, please make sure that they have a supply of nappies and wipes in their school bag. Please make sure that your child has at least one spare set of clothing in their bag in the event of an accident.

Plastic bags may not be used to store clothes on the coat hooks for reasons of health and safety. If you would like a Rolfe’s Nursery School jute bag, please speak to one of the teachers or alternatively keep any supplies in your child’s Rolfe’s backpack.

Recycling

Please do not throw away pretty pieces of ribbon, wrapping paper or fabric. We love to use recycled materials at Rolfe’s Nursery School to create wonderful pieces of artwork. We also love old hats and bags for the home corner. Please pass any items to your child’s class teacher.

With warmest wishes,

Mrs Victoria O’Brien

Headmistress
