Georgia Scrapbook Project Due Date Thursday, March 31, 2016*

DISCOVER GEORGIA
GEORGIA Regions and Industries 20 PTS
· Research Georgia’s Five Geographic Regions and 5 distinct industries. The section must address each Georgia region and industries in Georgia that benefit from the region; (Do not include locations in Augusta)
1. Create bullets of information on each of the Geographic regions explaining the following:
· Identify and describe each geographic region. (include agricultural make-up of the region and natural resources within the region
· Describe the physical features of that region (include aspects such as the Fall Line, Okefenokee Swamp, Mountains, Georgia Lakes and Rivers)
2. Identify an Industry in Georgia that utilizes a natural resources of the Georgia Region
(one per region)
· Identify the natural resource used and the marketed product of the industry
· Explain how this industry benefits Georgia’s growth and development in terms of tax revenue, jobs, and attractions to encourage people to tour or settle in Georgia.
3. Include a Georgia outline map with the region of description highlighted. Include pictures of the industrial product, and the natural resource used.
4. A website address from which you gathered your information and graphics is required (DO NOT GIVE ADDRESSES FOR SEARCH ENGINE CITES).
GEORGIA LAKES AND RIVERS AND BARRIER ISLANDS 10 PTS
· Research Two (2) Georgia Lake, Two (2) Georgia Rivers, and (1) Barrier Island.
· Locate and identify each on a map of Georgia
· Explain the economic and developmental value of each
· Include a graphic connected to the events and or importance of the waterway
GEORGIA History 10 PTS
· Research ten historical sites in Georgia. The section must include the information below. (Do not include places in Augusta)
1. Create bullets of information using 3 historic facts explaining the following:
· Identify the geographic region in which the site located and describe a feature of that region.
· Explain why the site is historically significant.
· Include information about the people associated with the site. Ex. Martin L. King Center.
2. Include pictures of each site and include a journalist blurb for each site explaining in your own words what you learned, found interesting about the site (minimum of 2 sentences) and the website address from which you gathered your information.
AUGUSTA HISTORY 30 PTS
· Visit at least fifteen historical sites or memorials in Augusta.
a. Using your own words, describe the place (do not cut and paste). Ex. What is the historical significance? How has it changed from its original state and use? What is its present use? Identify which unit of study from the text would reference an association with the site and explain.
b. Include picture(s) of the site. (Student must be in a minimum of 10 of the 15 pictures)
c. Include a journalist blurb for each site.

GEORGIA ECONOMY 10 PTS
This section should focus on Georgia businesses, industries and tourist attractions, which have a major impact on the economy of Georgia. Use information in reference books, brochures, Internet, magazine, and news articles.
Georgia Businesses.
1. Select three Georgia Businesses that originated and are based in Georgia. Students must identify the following:
1. Name
2. High points (recognitions, charity, rewards, etc.)
3. Risks (consider the period of history the company began, what may have been risk factors to consider during the entrepreneurship.
4. Impact on the state (jobs, tax revenue, allure of building a home in GA)
5. Transportation sys. (Highways, Railways, Airways, Waterways – explain how the
company utilizes these transportation systems- how is the product/service moving
across Georgia, across the nation, and/or internationally)
2. Include pictures (business, product, etc). Explain how Georgia’s location attracts these Georgia based businesses.
3. Include the website address from which you gathered your information.
GEORGIA TOURSIM 5 PTS
Georgia Tourism
· Five tourist attractions. (PLEASE DO NOT USE CLARK HILLS/STROM THURMOND LAKE OR ROCK CITY OR RUBY FALLS).
1. Include details one might need to know before visiting these places.

2. Explain the field trip potential of each tourist attraction, identify the educational connections (ex. science – classification of animals, history – civil war battle of ???, math – measure of distance and time, etc.)
3. DO NOT USE BROCHURES PRODUCED BY TOURIST SITES IN LIEU OF YOUR OWN WORK. The tourist information must be your own creation.

*Your assignment must be turned in on the due date or earlier. The Scrapbook Project may be turned in up two weeks early for bonus points of one extra point per school day the work is submitted prior to the March 31st deadline.
Should a student be absent on March 31, 2016, please arrange for a friend or family member to get the work to the school prior to the 3:10 dismissal (see DFA handbook). Work will not be accepted after my departure from the school March 31, 2016 at 4:00 p.m.
The Georgia Scrapbook project carries a value of three grades during the last 9 week period; the scrapbook, submitted March 31st, is weighted as a quiz grade and a project grade. The presentation of the scrapbook is weighted as a checked assignment.
