Person Specification/Skill Sets

Enthusiastic, self motivated and flexible person committed to the boarding experience

  • Ability to manage pastoral care issues of boarders and follow disciplinary procedures when required
  • Empathy for and actively promotes College’s philosophy and values
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience with young people and their special needs in a boarding setting, especially international boarding students
  • A skilled administrator with competent computer literacy skills
  • Able to work efficiently as part of a team
  • Ability and willingness to follow set procedures and adhere to College policies

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The position is to effectively manage the Boarding House, ensuring it provides safety and well-being to the students along with the values and policies of the Trust Board.

Pastoral Care /
  • Ensure that policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well being of boarders and boarding staff are adhered to

  • All policies and procedures are effectively administered. Boarder and boarding staff well being is maintained.

  • Implement current pastoral care programmes

  • All boarders are supported by care programmes

  • Work with Student Services Team to ensure effective liaison with day school

  • Boarders’ academic, social, health and emotional progress is managed

  • Boarding health and medical issues are managed

  • All boarders medical issues are managed effectively

  • Boarding House Code of Conduct is communicated and observed.

  • All boarders and their issues are handled efficiently and effectively within the Code of Conduct

  • All disciplinary issues are handled appropriately

  • All disciplinary issues are handled in a timely manner

  • Effective management of the boarding prefects

  • Boarding house prefects meet on a weekly basis and are well supported

Operational Management /
  • Ensure that the boarding house provides a safe and secure environment for boarders and staff
/
  • All boarders and staff safety and security issues are dealt with immediately and reported

  • Ensure emergency evacuation procedures and crisis management procedures are followed in accordance with College policies
/
  • All evacuations and crises procedures are followed appropriately

  • A high standard of cleanliness and presentation of the boarding house and the protocols on house presentation are observed.

  • Boarding houses always meet set presentation standards

  • Established daily boarding house schedules are followed as outlined in Boarding Staff Manual
/
  • All daily schedules are strictly adhered to

Resources Management /
  • Efficient use of resources with a focus on sustainability eg: electricity usage, paper usage

  • Resources eg utilities are monitored and sustainability targets regularly reviewed

Communication /
  • Ensure a positive welcoming relationship with boarder families
/
  • A positive and welcoming relationship is maintained with boarder families

  • Verbal and written correspondence from parents and guardians is responded to in a professional and timely manner and complaints forwarded to the Director of Boarding
/
  • Parents and guardians correspondence is responded to quickly and appropriately. Any complaints are forwarded to the Director of Boarding

  • Keep detailed records as outlined in the Boarding House Manual
/
  • All boarder information is recorded accurately and appropriately

  • Changeover of boarding staff managed effectively
/
  • Boarding House Supervisors receive a full debrief during changeover ensuring the house continues to run smoothly

Departmental /
  • Assist with the organisation and supervisory attendance at boarding events whilst on duty
/
  • Boarders are supported by the attendance of house supervisor at these social events

  • Attend all departmental staff meetings as required
/
  • All departmental staff meetings are attended

Professional Development /
  • Carries out professional development activities to ensure continued learning and development in the role
/
  • Commitment to professional development ensures a high quality programme

  • Workplace First Aid certification maintained
/
  • Current certificate is gained and maintained

  • Duty of Care certification achieved

  • Course undertaken and completed as per IEA

  • Attend staff training days held twice a year on staff only days
