MINOR LEAGUE SOFTBALL DIVISION INFORMATION

The Minor League Division is a beginning player and coach pitch softball division. Players will be taught the fundamentals of the game, good sportsmanship and teamwork. Games will be officiated by volunteer and student umpires following modified Little League rules pre-determined by the League.

ELIGIBILITY – This division consists of players who are 9 and 10 year olds as of 12/31/14. 8 year olds are eligible to tryout for this league with a minimum of 1 year of rookie league experience. Placement to this higher level is based on player safety, skill level and available roster space.

EVALUATION CLINIC

ALL PLAYERS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND A MANDATORY EVALUATION CLINIC, WHICH IS SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY MARCH 21ST, AT THE ELLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL GYM.

If a player is unable to attend the evaluation clinic then they must notify the league as soon as possible.

Any 10 year old players interested in trying out for the MajorsDivision must attend BOTH the Minors and Majors Evaluations.

TEAM SELECTION – Teams are selected with input from the coaches and Player Agent with attention paid to player’s experience, ability and potential scheduling conflicts. The player/parent will be notified in early April regarding team placement.

UNIFORMS –The official game uniform consists of a shirt, light grey baseball pants, visor, socks and softball cleats. All players will receive a visor and pair of socks that do not need to be returned. Uniform shirts will be handed out and must be returned at the end of the season to the coach. Parents will be responsible for paying a “replacement fee” of $25.00 for any shirt that is not returned by the end of June. Light grey baseball pants and softball cleats are not provided by the league but must be worn for scheduled games.

PRACTICES – Coaches will schedule practice’s beginning around the second week of April, weather permitting. Practices are scheduled on a weekly basis. Coaches will notify parents of the date, time and location of the practices.

GAME SCHEDULE – The 1st scheduled games are to begin the week ofApril 27thwithOpening DayCeremoniesscheduled forSaturday May 2nd. Opening Ceremonies will begin in the morning and will be followed with scheduled games later that day. Most Minor Division games will be played at Brookside Park weeknight evenings at 6pm and some Saturday afternoons. There may also be 1-2 away games scheduled with nearby surrounding towns. It is a 15 game schedule that should conclude in mid June. A seasoning ending party is planned at the conclusion of the season.
