2017Officer David White Scholarship Application
The Officer David White Scholarship was established by a local donor in 2006to encourage young people to pursue compassionate public service. The Scholarship honors Officer David White of the Naperville Park District Police, who, while on duty,helped save the life of a young person. Thanks to an additional donation to the Naperville Parks Foundation byMayor Emeritus A. George Pradel from his remaining campaign funds, the 2017 scholarship fund has been increased from $2,000 to $4,000.
Scholarship details: The scholarship will be awarded for the 2017-2018 academic year. The Naperville Park District will send a check earmarked for the scholarship recipient directly to the college or university.
Who is eligible: Children of active duty Naperville Park District police, City of Naperville police, and City of Naperville firefighters; Naperville Park District and City police, firefighters, and Naperville Police or Fire Explorers under the age of 25.Scholarship recipientmust be planning to attend an accredited 2- or 4-year college or university during the 2017-2018 academic year for the purpose of obtaining a degree.
Application deadline: 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 7,2017
Awarding of the scholarship: Applications will be evaluated in April 2017by a small committee representing the Naperville Park District and the City of Naperville.All Applicants will be notified of the results.
Instructions: Please complete the entire application, paying special attention to the essay question. Both content and manner of presentation will be considered when this scholarship application is reviewed. Submit your completed application with essay response and letters of recommendation by the deadline above. Please note that two letters of recommendation are required (both must be from a non-family member). Please use the letter of recommendation form provided and submit the letters together with the application by the deadline; late applications and letters will not be considered.
