Re: CORI Check, Other Screening Procedures and Special

Agency Requirements

Many agencies require additional documentation, screening procedures, and/or an orientation to the agency as part of the intern selection and acceptance process. Please be aware that the CORI and other requirements must be completed before you will be allowed to work with clients, so it is important that you fill out the necessary paper work as quickly as possible. These may include:

·  Criminal Offense Record Investigation (CORI) checks which are routinely required by most clinical agencies. Most agencies will conduct the CORI check and will discuss the process with you. Some agencies will require the School of Social Work to order the CORI. In this case, you will need to get the necessary forms from the Field Education Department.

·  Documentation of immunizations or other medical tests, such as TB testing. Most agencies require the same immunizations as those required by the University and by Massachusetts law for enrolled students. Please go to: www.bu.edu/shs/resources/ihr/crchealthform/ for a list of required immunizations.

·  Letters of recommendation from your foundation year field instructor, work supervisors or academic instructors. You may want to begin collecting these letters before the placement process begins.

·  Participation in orientation or training programs which may be held during the summer or in early September. Please clarify the dates you are expected to attend these events and whether they are offered on the days you are in field so that the orientation doesn’t conflict with your class schedule. These orientations may be prerequisites for starting the placement.

If you have any concerns about any of these requirements, please discuss this with a member of the Field Education Department staff.
