Irreverent craft brewery BrewDog is reserving a table at BrewDog Manchester bar exclusively for local startups, in a bid to support the next generation of intrepid enterprises by providing space for their ideas to flourish.

The move comes as the Scottish craft brewery introduces coffee to its venues across the country. Coffee houses have a long history of playing host to aspiring entrepreneurs, and BrewDog is aiming to counteract the rising price of office space, which is restricting young, exciting companies getting ahead.

The Business for Punks table can be booked via a 140 character business pitch, containing the hashtag #HopDesk, directed at the local bar’s twitter feed @BrewDogMancs. The winning business will be able to set up shop for up to one month, and innovate in a cool, creative space with free coffee and wifi, stationery supplies, and a copy of James Watt’s book, Business For Punks, to inspire them.

BrewDog co-founder, James Watt commented:

“There are all sorts of pitfalls to starting a business, and lack of space to realise your vision and collaborate is a huge one. Coffee shops are traditionally places where ideas are thrashed out, revolutions born, and businesses take shape. BrewDog started as two men and a dog, and now Punk IPA is the most popular craft beer in the UK. The next generation of business punks looking to set fire to the rule book and invent a new way of doing things deserve a leg up, so we welcome them to BrewDog bars – come and start your own revolution!”

Before the end of the year, 27 BrewDog bars across the UK will be unleashing bold artisanal coffee on the masses, energising the nation, from early morning commuters to post-work flaggers. Later, the hubs of creativity will draw beer buffs in with epic craft beer lines, bottles, and growlers to take away.

Youthful and dynamic Glasgow-based micro coffee roaster Dear Green will be providing the beans to enliven the ambitious startups, and coffee lovers visiting BrewDog bars. Dear Green work with small farms to source sustainable coffee, enriching the local communities and surrounding ecosystem.

James Watt continued:

“Making good beer brewed with passion is our number one mission. We’re also known for creating amazing spaces that people want to relax in, and injecting bars with craft coffee from micro-roasters Dear Green feels like a great way to ensure there’s space for locals, day and night, to create, innovate and debate. We’re all about pushing boundaries, and that’s why we’re inviting wannabe business punks into our bars – to mix up the stuffy corporate scene and turn traditional business on its head.”

One of the reasons behind BrewDog’s success is its revolutionary approach to business. In 2010 the brewery tore up the rulebook and introduced Equity For Punks, a first-of-its-kind crowdfunding scheme that allowed the business to scale up without selling out to faceless suits.

Over 35,000 shareholders have invested over £20million across four rounds of Equity for Punks to date, which is more money taken through crowdfunding than any other business on record. The money raised will fund new bar openings across the globe, the expansion of the brewery in Aberdeenshire, and further development of its craft beer range including opening a craft distillery and sour beer facility.

What is BrewDog?

Bored of the industrially brewed lagers and stuffy ales that dominated the UK market, school friends James Watt and Martin Dickie established BrewDog in 2007. They decided the best way to fix this undesirable predicament was to brew their own beers. Both only 24 at the time, BrewDog’s cofounders leased a building, got some scary bank loans, spent all their money on stainless steel and started making hardcore beers.

“We are dedicated to making cool, contemporary and progressive beers showcasing some of the world’s classic beer styles. All with an innovative twist and customary BrewDog bite.”
