JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Volunteer Co-ordinator

LOCATION: Age UK North Craven offices, Cheapside

Settle, BD24 9EW

RESPONSIBLE TO: Chief Officer

WORKING HOURS: 21hours per week

with occasional requirement for activity out of

office hours in the evenings and at weekends.

SALARY £20,138 per annum pro rata 21 hours per week

plus pension and holidays etc.

Initially a fixed term 12-month contract

Job Purpose

  • To develop and publicise volunteer roles, undertake effective volunteer recruitment and training processes, and manage and maintain a vibrantand well-supported volunteer team in order to support the wide range activities and services provided by Age UK North Craven.
  • To undertake the above jointly with Age UK North Craven staff, responding to volunteer opportunities, co-ordinating training and legal compliance as it relates to the differentrequirements of volunteering roles.

Duties and Responsibilities

Volunteer recruitment

To enable the organisation to maximise the contribution of time and energy from community volunteers by:

  • Developing cleardescriptions for the range of volunteer roles within the organisation.
  • Raising the profile of volunteering opportunities offered by the organisation to attract volunteers with a wide range of skills and backgrounds.
  • Co-ordinating a clear pathway for application and welcome for potential volunteers, ensuring adhesion to consistent good practice in recruitment, including use of the Disclosure and Barring Service where relevant.
  • Liaising with other volunteer involving organisations in the area to support partnership and co-operation where possible.

Volunteer Support

To enable the organisation maintain a team of well-supported and trained volunteers by:-

  • Developing regular and accessible training for volunteers working in all service areas to provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to provide a good quality of service and enjoy their roles.
  • Ensure volunteers can access good practice guidance as set out in Age UK North Craven Policies and Procedures, including those relating to Safeguarding Adults, Confidentiality and Health and Safety.
  • To advise and support colleagues in the day-to-day management of the volunteers in their areas of work.
  • To maintainand develop central information systems which support good practice in volunteer management and communications.
  • To lead events to celebrate the contribution of volunteers to the organisation.

Volunteer development

  • To work with external bodies such as the Craven Volunteer Centre, and other local volunteer involving organisations to improve Age UK North Craven’s profile with and management of volunteers.
  • To work with staff team members to develop systems that allow for cover requirements due to staff or volunteer absence, enabling all service areas to run smoothly.
  • To work with colleagues as the need for new services are identified, through engagement with older people in North Craven, developing volunteer roles, peer support and appropriate management, specifically identifying funding sources appropriate to develop voluntary involvement and contribution.
  • To provide reports on progress and development of projects to a variety of audiences including Chief Officer, Trustee Board, funding bodies and partner agencies.

In general

  • To adhere to all the Age UK North Craven Policies and Procedures, including those relating to Safeguarding Adults, Confidentiality and Health and Safety.
  • To attend regular staff meetings and occasional organisational meetings as required by the Board of Trustees
  • To undertake all work in the spirit set by the values and ethos of the organisation.
  • To undertake any other relevant activity as requested by the Chief Officer.
