Introduction
Topic
For our project we chose the topic of Birthdays. This topic is relevant and interesting on both a general and personal level. Furthermore, the pupils draw on their own background knowledge and personal experiences to complete project tasks. This is especially helpful for the weaker 3 points learner who may have more limited research skills. Finally, Birthdays is a broad subject as it is multi-faceted. Celebration, beliefs, customs, gifts, etc. combine to create many opportunities for project tasks and assignments.
Target Audience
The Birthday Project is targeted towards the 3 point learner. The project requires only basic prerequisite English language and research skills. In addition the tasks are simple and easily completed with guidance from the teacher.
Aims
The aim of the Birthday Project is to complete requirements for the 3 point Bagrut. Students will prepare a complete project, present it orally before their classmates and teacher, and ultimately use it to complete their oral Bagrut.
Process
The project is meant to be completed in 12 lessons, or approximately 3 weeks. After informing the parents, school administration and pupils of the project requirements we will begin the assignments in class. Pupils will have time scheduled in the computer lab and will complete a work schedule after each lesson. They will type their drafts and complete the work in school.
Group Reflection
Shoshana: I enjoyed working on the project because of the greater exposure it gave me to different project types. I have personally only completed one Bagrut project, and this prepared project will be a tremendous help and asset to my teaching in the future.
Working with Hila and Esthi was a pleasure. Teamwork and mutual understanding were the key to the completion of our work.

בשבועות הקרובים נתחיל לעבוד על הפרויקט שלנו באנגלית: Birthday Project. הפרויקט זה הוא בעל חשיבות מרובה מאחר והוא חלק בלתי נפרד מתוכנית הלימודים ובחינות הבגרות של התלמידים. תוכנית הלימודים החדשה באנגלית משלבת פרויקטים שעל התלמידים לבצע בכיתות י', יא' ויב'. בבחינה בעל פה, בכיתה יב', התלמידים יידרשו לשוחח עם הבוחן על פרויקטים אלו.
ציון הפרויקט מהווה 50% מהציון באנגלית בסמסטר זה.
במסגרת הכנת הפרויקט הילדים ילמדו מיומנויות שונות, חדשות וחשובות, שיסייעו להם לשפר את האנגלית שלהם בדרכים שונות:
· שימוש בתרשימי זרימה באנגלית
· שימוש והקלדה במחשב באנגלית
· שימוש במילון ובמילון מילים נרדפות
· סיכום טקסטים ומאמרים
· מציאת הרעיון המרכזי בטקסטים שונים
· הכנת רשימה ביבליוגרפית
· מציאת חומרים באינטרנט
אנו מאמינים כי העבודה על הפרוייקט ירחיב את אוצר המילים באנגלית וישפר את מיומנויות הקריאה והכתיבה.
בתחום התוכן, התלמידים ילמדו על עצמם ועל תאריך הלידה שלהם, על אופני ציון תאריך הלידה בתרבויות ובחברות שונות.
בתחום הארגון,הם ילמדו לעבוד על פי לוח זמנים מתוכנן מראש ובהתאם לדרישות ידועות מראש. כדי להצליח ברכישת מיומנות זו, התלמידים יקבלו לוח זמנים שיפרט אלו מטלות נדרשות לעבודה ואת תאריך ההגשה של כל מטלה. מרבית העבודה על הפרויקט תתבצע במסגרת השיעורים הרגילים, אך יינתנו גם מטלות לשיעורי בית. התלמידים יידרשו לעמוד בלוח הזמנים ולהקפיד להגיש את כל המטלות בזמן שנקבע.

How to Summarize?
1. Read the original quickly, and try to understand its main subject or purpose.
2. Underline or highlight of the main idea in each paragraph. Remember that each paragraph deals with one issue or topic
(* Look up any words or concepts you don't know. You may use Morfix dictionary (www.morfix.co.il))
3. Draw up a list of the topics - or make a diagram.
4. Write a one or two sentences about each central idea that is expressed in the original text. Focus on the main point. Ignore all the examples.
5. Now, combine all the points you have written. Use your own words. Make sure that the final summary expresses the central meaning of the original text. Use connectors (because, although, in addition, moreover) to help join the ideas together.
6. The first sentence of the first paragraph of your summary should state the author's name, the title of the article and the author's purpose in writing.
7. Check your spelling and grammar.

What is a bibliography
A bibliography is the list of books, articles, internet sites, etc. that you have used for your project. Everytime you find information that you use in your project, you must write down the source!
Do this as soon as you find it.
Include the work from the English Center in your appendix.
How to write a bibliography
1. For a book:
Author’s name (Last name, initial); Name of book (in bold or underlined); Publisher, Date of publication.
Example:
Smith, C; Time for Astrology, Stars, Inc., 1999
2. For an article (in a book, magazine, newspaper)
Author’s name (Last name, initial); Name of article (in bold or underlined); Name of book/magazine/newspaper; date of publication and page number.
Example:
Smith, C; Full Moon, Zodiac Journal; Feb 1999, p. 42
3. For an Internet Site
Author’s name (if given)(Last name, initial); Name of article or site (in bold or underlined); Internet URL; date written; date you found it (in brackets).
