Welcome to Band 2012!
Dear 4th Grade Band Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and Student(s):
This upcoming school year brings with it many exciting events. I hope that you are looking forward to starting instrumental music lessons and ready to have another excitingyear of music making!
Parents, please read and discuss the attached Music Department Agreement. It is important that each student understand his or her responsibilities as a member of the band program. Accepting and living up to one’s responsibilities is a character trait that we all want to see the students develop.
Lesson class: See attached rotating lesson schedule.Lessons begin: Week of October 1, 2012
Band Rehearsals: To be announced in the late spring
Beginning Band and Orchestra students will not be performing in the Winter or Spring Concerts because they will have the special opportunity to perform in their own Beginner Concert performance on Thursday, June 6th, 2011 at 6:45 pm in the All Purpose Room at Charles Campagne School.Having their own concert near the end of theschool year will provide the students with ample time to become acquainted with the fundamental skills of performing on their instruments. This, in turn, will help them gain confidence and help to alleviate the pressure of performing before they are ready. There will be more information as we get closer to the performance.
If you are interested in renting an instrument through the district for the 2012-2013 school year please fill out and return a rental form with a $50.00 check payable to Bethpage School District. If you are renting a band and orchestra instrument, it is $50.00 for both rentals, not each. Rental checks are due no later than October 5, 2012.
I ask that each student bring to everylesson and rehearsal:
Any 2 pocket folder
Pencil
The required text: Essential Elements 2000
Drummers must purchase a pair of 5A wood tip drumsticks and a practice pad.
I recommend purchasing a foldable music stand for the student to keep at home. Students will develop unhealthy habits by practicing leaning over a bed or table. Not only will this inhibit their skill, but it could also lead to unwanted pain or pressure in the neck and/or back.
If you have questions or concerns throughout the school year, please feel free to contact me by using my district email address: . I strongly urge you to use email since I can respond immediately. Phone and written notes will be responded to as time and scheduling permits.
Musically Yours,
Ms. River
