This is a summary of the significant features, benefits and limitations of the cover by Zurich Municipal’s Business Travel policy. The full terms, conditions or exclusions are shown in the Policy Document, which can be obtained from Zurich Municipal.
The Policy provides:
Indemnity against specified risks associated with cancellation, personal accident, medical expenses, loss of personal effects and legal liability.
Persons Insured
The policy covers journeys made by the Persons Insured in connection with the business of the Policyholder as stated in the Policy schedule.

Summary of exclusions
Excess
The first £15 of any claim for most aspects of cover under Cancellation, Personal Effects and Medical Expenses.
£250 each and every claim in respect of laptops
Exclusions
- Cancellation Section
-government regulations, personal financial circumstances other than redundancy, disinclination to travel
-expenses caused by agents, travel or accommodation etc providers, riot etc.
- Personal Effects Section
-property that is not normally worn or carried on the person, property left overnight in or on an unattended vehicle, property undergoing various processes
-sports gear in use, fragile or brittle articles, camping equipment, contact lenses
-money shortages, depreciation
-losses not reported to the Police within 24 hours
- Legal Liability Section
-contractual liability, employment, business, trade or profession
-use or possession of land, property, watercraft, vehicles, caravans or aircraft
- Other General Exclusions
-participation in winter sports
-canoeing, sailing or boating outside inland or coastal waters
-motor-cycling, racing of any kind other than on foot, or air travel other than as passenger in a licensed passenger carrying aircraft
-any other obviously hazardous activity
-intoxication of or the illegal use of drugs by any Person Insured or deliberate exposure to unnecessary danger (except in an attempt to save human life) or sexually transmitted disease
-undertaking a trip against medical advice
-biological, chemical, radioactive or nuclear terrorism
-ionising radiation or contamination by radioactivity
-war invasion act of foreign enemy hostilities (whether war be declared or not) civil war rebellion revolution insurrection or military or usurped power
-pressure waves caused by aircraft or other aerial devices travelling at sonic or supersonic speeds
-travel to areas where the Foreign & Commonwealth Office has advised against all travel or all non-essential travel.
Special Conditions
- There are a number of obligations on the Persons Insured relating to disclosure of information at the time of booking the trip and to their conduct in the event of a claim.
- Additional cover can be arranged for certain hazardous activities that appear in the Exclusions but specific conditions will be applied to those activities.
Claim notification
If you want to make a claim, please contact the Policyholder at their address. Claims are to be notified as soon as possible, with full details to be provided within 30 days of the claim (7 days in respect of riot or malicious damage) including supporting evidence in writing. The Police must be notified within 24 hours in the event of theft or malicious damage.
Complaints Procedure
At Zurich Municipal we always endeavour to deliver a quality service but we recognise that very occasionally things may go wrong. If you have any cause for complaint, you should in the first instance call or write to the Policyholder, or Zurich Municipal on 0870 2418050. Please quote the details of your policy (your policy number, your name, and your organisation’s name). If the matter is not resolved to your satisfaction, the formal process for progressing the complaint (which does not affect your legal rights) is detailed in the policy document available from the Policyholder.
If the complaint is still not resolved, you can approach the Financial Ombudsman Service. Referral to the Financial Ombudsman will not affect your right to take legal action. The address and contact number are in the Policy Wording and on their website.
Cancellation Procedure
We may cancel your policy by giving you 30 days written notice by recorded delivery to your last known address. We will refund the premium for the remaining days when we will not be on cover.
Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)
Zurich Insurance Company is covered by the FSCS. You may be entitled to compensation (subject to eligibility, as defined in COMP 4 of the FSA Handbook) should we be unable to meet our obligations. Further information is available on or you may contact the FSCS on 020 7892 7300.
