VACANCY FOR A COUNCILLOR

A vacancy for a Councillor now exists at Newton due to the resignation of Cllr Hewins, who is leaving for pastures new. Roger has been with the Council since 2010 and his input will be greatly missed. New and varied responsibilities are being handed to Parish Councils, making the job an interesting and responsible one within the community. If you feel that you have skills which could be used for the benefit of the Parish, please contact the Clerk as above. A full complement of Councillors is essential if Council is to operate effectively.

PLANNING APPLICATION 134669

Southmoor Meadow, Southmoor Road,

Newton on Trent

The above application can be inspected on the West Lindsey District Council website - “View applications Decision and Appeals.” Comments can also be left on the site should you have an opinion on a matter connected with the application.

DOGS IN THE PLAY AREA, DUNHAM ROAD

It has been reported that dogs are being taken into the Play Area at night after 10.00 pm. There are notices forbidding this, and for very good reasons. The area is intended to be used by children for play, and dog faeces present a health danger to young people. Consequently, the two must be kept apart. Dog faeces carry harmful infections, of which the most common is Toxocariasis. The most common disorders are eye infections, whilst others are vague aches, dizziness, nausea, asthma, and finally epileptic fits. Please observe the rules and keep your dogs out of the Play Area.

NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN

The requirements for completing a Neighbourhood Plan, and a request for volunteers to help the Parish Council with the process has been well publicised in Newton News over recent months. To date no-one has come forward so Council has decided to shelve the project for the time being. Council will now inform West Lindsey District Council of its decision. It is possible for Council to begin the project without the help of a committee from the village, however, the work involved cannot be completed solely by the members of the Parish Council. At some point, help will have to come from those electors of the Parish who see the sense in controlling future developments.

AGE UK

During a two month period ending on Saturday 21st January 2017 Age UK are running a campaign entitled “No-one should have no-one at Christmas” by running press releases and social media updates on twitter and Facebook as well as their website and through fundraising activities having a focus on recruiting volunteers for the Befriending Service, making sure that older people are signposted to local social activities, and encouraged to support such as the Call In Time telephone support service. It is also essential that we raise awareness of the issue of loneliness across the Lindsey area. If you think you or someone you know could benefit from the telephone support service, or wish to know more about how the service works please call Age UK on 0800 434 6105 or email
