This curriculm proposal proposes to (1) replace the name "Microbiology Concentration" under the BS in Biology degree to "Microbiology and Immunology Concentration" and (2) update the course requirement for the concentration.

Additional Information and Guidelines

Note 1: Additional GPA Requirement for BS Biology Degree:
▪ Minimum 2.0 GPA for all biology core (BIOL 10700, 10100, 10200, 24300, 24400, and 42600) and concentration required courses (BIOL 31600 and either BIOL 33300 or 35700). (BIOL 35700 may be replaced by BIOL 21400. BIOL 21300, prerequisite of BIOL 21400, is counted as a free elective course.)
▪ Minimum 2.0 GPA for all biology courses required for graduation.

Note 2: Humanities/ Social Sciences Electives (9 credits):
▪ Department of Biological Sciences accepts Humanity Elective courses with the following course subject codes: AD, COM, ENGL, ETHN, FLL, HIST, LAS, MUS, PHIL, WOST, and THTR. (Six credit hours of foreign languages may also be used to fulfill the requirement.)
▪ The Department accepts Social Sciences Elective courses with the following subject codes: ANTH, BHS, CDFS, COM, ECON, MGMT, POL, PSY, SOC, & WOST.

Note 3: Microbiology Elective (minimum 12 credits):
▪ Courses range from 1 to 5 credits.
▪ Maximum 3 credits of microbiology related independent studies / research / internship can be used to fulfill the Microbiology Concentration elective requirement.

Note 4: Experiential Learning Elective (no minimum credit requirement): Two Experiential Learning (E X L) units are required for graduation.
Experiential Learning courses ranges from 0 to 3 credits. BIOL 21000, 34200, 48800, 48900, SCI 49100, ENGL 10500 and ENGL 41401 can be used to fulfill this requirement. Any other E X L courses are acceptable.

Note 5: Microbiology Concentration Requirement: Take at least one of the following: BIOL 33300 (SP) or BIOL 35700 (FA), BIOL 35700 may be replaced by BIOL 21400 (FA, SP). BIOL 21300, prerequisite of BIOL 21400 is counted as a free elective.
