Introduction To Applied Behavior Analysis & Verbal Behavior In An IBI Program For Individuals With Autism
This TWO-day workshop presented by Holly Kibbe, MS, BCBA and Jennifer Donnelly, MADS (candidate), BCABA, is designed to provide parents, therapists, teachers, consultants and other professionals with information and strategies to teach individuals with autism and other related disorders. During the two-day workshop, participants will learn about ABA/Verbal Behavior and spend a great deal of time viewing video taped illustrations as well as role-played examples of good teaching procedures. Participants will receive methodology to teach children with autism across various learner levels (early through advanced) in both the natural environment and the intensive teaching environment:
- What is ABA/VB/IBI?
- Common definitions;
- Changing your child’s behavior;
- Determining why problem behavior is occurring (what is the function?);
- Antecedent Manipulations – strategies that can be used to prevent problem behavior before it happens. Strategies include contriving motivation, using competing reinforcers, pairing people with reinforcement and pairing the instructional setting with reinforcement;
- Teaching an unwilling learner to willingly relinquish reinforcing items/activities;
- How and when to use prompts while teaching;
- How to teach in the intensive teaching environment (ITT);
- How and when to use reinforcement;
- Using stimulus-stimulus pairing to make new toys/activities valuable to your learner;
- Teaching children of all levels to engage in independent play with socially appropriate toys;
- Learn errorless teaching procedures and error correction procedures in ITT;
- Important variables to implement while teaching intensively;
- What to avoid doing when teaching intensively;
- How to teach in the natural environment (NET) including contriving and manipulating motivation, requesting and generalizing skills;
- Teaching early learners to request items and activities;
- Teaching language to non vocal learners using sign language;
- Guidelines when teaching your learner to request items/activities;
- How to prevent problem behaviour in the NET;
- Transitioning from sign language to vocal verbal behavior;
- Generalizing skills taught in ITT in the NET;
- Organizing your program materials;
- Data collection including how and why to take data;
- Using the ABLLS to develop verbal behavior programs;
- How to start a home program.
