GUIDELINES FOR MATCH MANAGERS

  1. Contact with you opposite number should be made at least four weeks before the date of the match. Stella, Steve or Rod can provide appropriate telephone numbers. For away matches the opposition should be informed in good time of the make-up of our team. Visiting clubs should be asked to provide names and handicaps so that MTRC can find opposition of the appropriate standard.
  1. The match manager would select the MTRC team. Steve/ Rod are happy to help butit is not their responsibility. The professionals act as markers. A notice has been posted asking players to contact match managers to express an interest in playing in particular fixtures. The ideal is a team of five to play singles, with “friendly” doubles if there is demand and time.
  1. It is expected that all team members will take lunch. For home matches, Stella should be informed of numbers as soon as possible, including guests of both teams. Visiting teams should be asked in good time whether they intend to spend Friday and/or Saturday night in Manchester. If so it is a long-standing tradition that hospitality will be offered in the form of accommodation in member’s homes and/or some form of Saturday evening entertainment. Visitors should be warned that it is no longer invariably easy to find hotel rooms in Manchester at weekends, especially if Manchester United is playing at home.
  1. The match manager is responsible for collecting the money for markers fees (payable in cash to the pro on the day) and lunch costs, for visiting players and guests. This season the overall match fee is £31.00, including @ £14.50, lunch consisting of a main course, cheese & Coffee. £12.50 per player represents the markers fee. £4.00 Court fee. Non Playing Guests lunches will cost £15.00. Players not taking lunch will pay £15.00, to include a contribution to staff overhead. All wine will be split between our members who are playing in the match.

Match Managers will provide an account to the Manageress within three days of the match.. The total of the visiting player’s and guests fee’s will be billed to the match manager’s account and it is, therefore important that the match manager collects all the cash due.

  1. For a variety of reasons the hospitality provided by other clubs is variable. Managers of away fixtures need to consult their opposite numbers early to establish whether accommodation or evening hospitality is available. There is a considerable fund of accumulated knowledge about other clubs among MTRC members and I would be happy to help establish what has been provided in previous years.
  1. If managers could let me have match results as soon as possible. As a minimum this should include names and handicaps. Any additional information of interest in the form of a short match report and photographs, would be welcome, to add interest to the club match book as well as providing material for notice boards and Black friars News.

Please inform me as soon as possible of any major problems. Stella, Steve and Rod are always available for advice but they should not be expected to take over the detailed organisation of matches.
