Please note:
- Prior approval of the Departmental Research Committee is required before the undergraduate student can start work.
- Approval of the Chair of Faculty Research Committee/Dean of School is required in case one of the project team members is the Chair of the Departmental Research Committee.
- The progress and results of this provision of research experience must be reported in the progress and completion reports.
- This provision of research experience may be considered as Work Integrated Education (WIE). Please seek the approval of your Head of Department/Dean of School.
- The funding for the provision of research experience for undergraduate students in the GRF project must be charged to the earmarked grant for undergraduate allowance in the GRF project, e.g., if the GRF project code is B-Q111, the charging account code should be B.xx .82.Q111 where xx denotes the department code.
- The appointment period for each undergraduate student, irrespectively of his/her appointment on a monthly or an hourly basis, in the GRF project, must not exceed tenmonths.
- For appointment lasting for 60 days or more, MPF should be provided. Please make sure that there is sufficient funding available in the GRF project account for the provision of MPF.
- For appointment of undergraduate student on a monthly basis, please ensure that the statutory minimum wage rate of HK$34.50 per hour, with effect from 1 May 2017, is met.
- For appointment of undergraduate student on a monthly salary of HK$2,500, the maximum number of hours per month is fixed at 35 hours^. Please attach a copy of the financial statement generated from the Research Information System (RIS) and send it together with the Form RC/5Adirectlyto the responsible HRO staff for issuance of appointment letter.
- For appointment of undergraduate student at an hourly rate of HK$70, the maximum number of hours per month is 35hours^. The department/school can issue the appointment letter for the undergraduate student using the Appointment Model of the Computerized Human Resources Information System (CHRIS).

An employment visa allows the person to work only with the employer and for the appointment as approved by the Director of Immigration, but not other employers nor additional appointment(s) without the prior permission of the Director of Immigration. Application for permission from the Hong Kong Immigration Department on subsequent changes on the employment visa should be submitted preferably two weeks prior to commencement of work.
