From the Director, U.S. Life Master Lou Mercuri

After many years of working successfully with chess students on an individual or group basis, I am committed to continuing a training program for young players that will provide an environment conducive to growth and improvement in chess. The emphasis is on specific improvement and feedback for each player, to give every player a chance to grow and improve in chess. Our players continue to learn, develop, and compete successfully for state and national scholastic championships. We continue to offer new training sessions, materials, and topics for each of the weeks. I will again have the invaluable assistance of Maryanne Reilly, long active in chess instruction and the support of youth chess activities, to help the sessions run smoothly.

In 2006 and 2007, both summer sessions were completely filled. Please consider registering prior to June 1 to ensure a spot for your son or daughter.

Please feel free to contact me at (508) 653-1905, or at for further information about the program.

What Parents and Students Have To Say

This has been a fantastic program for my son. Lou’s instructional methods work for players of all strengths. Every time Jesse attends he learns lots of new material. He has a blast!

Ray Madoff, parent of Jesse Nicholas

Lou is the kind of teacher any chess-loving kid would wish for. His camps are always fun and provide an arsenal of chess tactics.

Paula Garbarino, parent of JakeGarbarino

I liked the chess camp because you got to play against a lot of people. We went swimming and played blitz and it’s really fun.

Michelle Chen

I liked the way you organized the program. You provided training materials at the beginning and an evaluation letter at the end. So while you had fun in playing, you also knewyour weak and strong parts and got a list of references on how to improve your skills.
