Interpretation training Program

The New Hampshire Minority Health Coalition (NHMHC) collaborates with Southern New Hampshire Area Health Education Center (SNHAHEC) on the Interpretation Services Program to increase the number of trainedmedical/social services and legal interpreters in New Hampshire. Also, NHMHC and SNHAHEC are offering cultural competency training to community based organizations. Consumers are also trained about accessing services in NH and their rights to receive adequate interpretation/translation services from federally funded organizations.
What is the Law regarding language interpretation?
Congress passed TITLE VI of the CIVIL RIGHTS ACT OF 1964 to assure that
“No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin*, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.”
*”National origin” includes individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP).
