Claude Diallo

Sofya Melikyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1978, and began her music studies at the age of five at Tchaikovsky Specialized Music School of Yerevan, studying piano with Anahit Shahbazyan. In 1994, Sofya moved to Spain, where she continued her studies in the Royal Conservatory of Madrid, class of pianist Joaquin Soriano. Upon graduating with Highest Honor Prize in 1999, Sofya took private instructions and worked with Galina Egiazarova in Madrid, and Brigitte Engerer in Paris. In 2001 she began post-graduate study in Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris Alfred Cortot under the guidance of pianist Ramzi Yassa, where she unanimously received the Diplome Superieure d'Execution in 2003. Beyond her formal substantial education, Sofya has also taken Master Classes with such musicians as Vitali Margulis, John O'Connor, Fanny Solter, Francois-Rene Duchable and Menahem Pressler.Currently she is working on her Master of Music Degree in Manhattan School of Music of New York, under the tutelage of Cuban pianist Solomon Mikowsky. Awards Sofya has earned thus far include First Prize and the Prize for Music Talent at the Marisa Montiel 16th International Piano Competition in Linares, Spain (1997); the First Prize at the 13th International Piano Competition in Ibiza, Spain (1999); the First Prize for Music Interpretation awarded by Amigos del Colegio de Espana Association in Paris (2003); by unanimous decision, Medal at the Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona (2006). Sofya Melikyan has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras in Armenia, Spain and elswere in Europe, as well as the Armenian National Symphony Orchestra, Armenian Chamber Orchestra. At various times, she has also performed with the Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra of Spain, Malaga Symphony Orchesta, and the New Europe Chamber Orchestra. Sofya has performed at several festivals and concert halls, including the 3rd Domenico Scarlatti International Piano Festival (Soria, Spain); the 14th International Music Festival in Ibiza (Spain); BEMUS International Music Festival ( Belgrade, Serbia); the 15th International Piano Festival in Tenerife (Spain); Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago Cultural Center; the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow; the Auditorio Nacional of Madrid; Theatre Monumental of Madrid; Palace of Festivals of Santander; Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid; Historischen Kaufhaus Concert Hall in Freiburg; Armenian Philharmonic Hall in Yerevan; Komitas Chamber Hall in Yerevan; Alfred Cortot Concert Hall in Paris, Theatre of Creil in France, Philharmonic Hall in Belgrade, among others. In addition to her solo recitals, Sofya performs frequently with chamber and contemporary music ensembles. In 2005 her piano duo was a winner of Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition in Manhattan School of Music. She has made many live recordings for Radio and Television broadcasts in Europe and USA. To name a few: National Radio of Spain; the Classical Music Television Station of Spain; National Radio and Television of Armenia; Chicago WFMT Radio station; Muzzik French Television Station, and others. Sofya has also released two CDs with music of Haydn, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Albeniz, Dutilleux and Khachaturian. Some of the scheduled performances will include three appearences as a soloist and in ensemble at the First Armenian Music Festival in Juan March Foundation's Concert Hall in Madrid ( January, 2007), as well as a debut recital in Carnegie Hall, as a winner of Artists International Competition ( October , 2006).

Claude Diallowas born into a family of musicians in 1981 in St. Gallen, Switzerland. After finishing the obligatory school time, Claude attended the Commercial College “Kantonsschule am Brühl St. Gallen” for four years, where he graduated with the “Berufsmatura” (professional maturity) in 2001. From August 2002 to June 2004 Claude attended the Jazz School St. Gallen and graduated from his undergraduate studies with a major in Piano with Markus Bischof and additional major in Voice with Bettina Tuor. From September 2004 to December 2006 Claude Diallo was attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston MA, USA, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Performance with Summa Cum Laude. Starting in February 2007, Claude Diallo worked at Berklee College of Music as accompanist for the voice department. Furthermore Claude Diallo was chosen head of the jazz department and was teaching piano lessons at Christopher Vuk’s newly opened music school «School of Groove» in Cambridge, MA USA In Boston, Claude Diallo had the privilege to study with the following musicians: Danilo Perez, Raymond Santisi, Frank Carlberg, Charlie Banacos, Bob Moses, Joe Lovano, Jetro da Silva, Alain Mallet, Kenwood Dennard, Andy McGhee, Victor Mendoza, Tiger Okoshi, Yakov Gubanov, Ed Tomassi and Mitch Haupers, Bruce Katz, Dave Limina, Dennis Montgomery the III.Since September 2007 Claude Diallo studies Jazz Performance at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College to obtain a Masters of Music. Among his professors are David Berkman, Michael Philip Mossman, Antonio Hart and Howard Brofsky. Claude Diallo already released 6 CDs and performed in Switzerland, USA, Brazil, Singapor, Taiwan, Albania, Austria, Germany, Louxembourg and Israel. Among the musicians he worked with are: - Denzal Sinclaire a renowned Canadian jazz singer - Dr. Andy McGhee, Prof. at Berklee College of Music and former tenor sax player of the Lionel Hampton and Woody Hermann bands. - Johann Frank, guitarist that worked with Phil Collins. - James Williams, drummer that worked with Gary Burton among others - Luques Curtis, bassist that worked with Gary Burton, Sean Jones, Eddie Palmieri - Massimo Buonanno, drummer that worked with John Meyer among others - Kenwood Dennard drummer legend that worked with Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius - Angelita Li, Hong Kong based jazz vocalist - Jennifer Holiday, Grammy Award winning singer.Claude Diallo plans to stay in New York after graduating from the Aaron Copland school of Music in December 2008. His goals are to teach Jazz piano to people of all ages and to maintain a busy concert schedule with his own group called: Claude Diallo Situation. The new CD entitled Claude Diallo Situation, Traveling with Music is available on CD Baby and earned good press in Switzerland. The next CD project is already in planed in 2009.
