REGIONAL SCIENCE FAIR

Despite anincrease in the number of schools participating our students dominated the local Science Fair and won prizes to the value of a thousand dollars.

The chief judge Dr Mike Dickison, was impressed by thelevel of work and we are proud of all our students who participated in Science Investigations.

KIDS SING

Our School Choir participated in the recent Kids Sing Competiton held at Wanganui Collegiate School. They performed extremely well and received the award for Best Stage Performance.

SUPERSPORT FOOTBALL

We had both a boys and girls team travel to the Supersport Competition in Levin on Wednesday. Both teams were undefeated in their pool play but hit some stiff competition in the final round. The Boys came third and the girls fourth.

Both the Football Academy teams are participating in a weekend tournament in Masterton next month.

BASKETBALL

Our Basketball teams were outstanding this year and had a clean sweep in the local competition.

WIS A Boys won the A grade, WIS B Girls won the B grade and WIS B Boys won the C grade. Well done on a marvellous all round performance. Thanks to our coaches Joe and Mel for their awesome work.

REGIONAL CHESS COMPETITION

This week saw us host a Regional Chess Tournament with over fifty local school children from throughout the district participating. Each child played seven games during the day and as a result one team came third overall and have qualified WIS to participate in the National Competition at the end of September.The qualifying team was Benjamin Kidd, FiroozeColaabalava, Lawrence Lu, Athena Lu and Tomas Bidgood.

MATHS QUESTIONNAIRE

Coming home with this newsletter is a questionnaire about mathematics. No it’s not a test!! We are continually reviewing our teaching strategies and as part of this, we would like to hear from you, as parents, and gain an understanding of your views as a parent/caregiver. We would really appreciate you taking the time to complete this questionnaire and returnit to school with your child.

VISITING AUTHORS

This year as part of the Storylines Festival and Storylines Story Tours, New Zealand author Darren Joseph andNew Zealand author and illustratorGavin Bishop visited our school and spoke to a number of classes about their craft. They were entertaining and inspirational speakers and the students enjoyedtheir visit greatly.

INFORMATION EVENING

This was held last Thursday evening and we had a great turnout. Thank you to all those parents/caregivers for their support of children who assisted as guides or were working in classrooms on the night. We received great feedback about the students both on the night and via email the next day.

SCHOOL PRODUCTION ALICE IN WONDERLAND

This year’s school production is “Alice in Wonderland” and preparation is now in full swing with auditions complete and practices underway. Tickets are on sale at the Royal Wanganui Opera House. Adults $15.00, children $8.00 and families $35.00 (2 adults and 2 children). All door sales are $15.00 so we encourage you to book early through the Opera House. Dates are Thursday 21 September 7.00 pm, Friday 22 September

7.00 pm andSaturday 23 September 2.00 pm and 7.00pm.

Even if your child is not involved, please encourage all your family and friends to come along and support our production. They are of a very high standard and regularly receive rave reviews!!!!!!!!!

PTA QUIZ NIGHT

The Parents and Teachers Association are having a Quiz night at the Army Barracks, Maria Place Extension (Across the road from the Fire Station) on 30 September 2017 at 7.00pm

This is being held to raise funds for outdoor equipment for all the pupils of Whanganui Intermediate. The bar will open at6.30pm.

Tickets are $60 for a table of six or $10 per person.

PTA QUIZ NIGHT

Do you own a business? Does your child attend W.I.S? Could you please help us out with a donation for our quiz night?

Whanganui Intermediate PTA are urgently seeking support of goods/ vouchers to be auctioned alongside spot prizes, for funds for outdoor equipment for our pupils.

This is our major fundraiser event for the year. WhanganuiIntermediate PTA would be extremely grateful for your support. Please help us to make this night be one to remember!
